I've been running a Synthetic blend from Spectra Gold its a 10w-40 its pretty cold here in the winter (i wont ride if its below freezing, afraid of ice... but it usally is about 35 or so when i do ride) wondering if i should go down to a 5-20 or 40 what do you guys think/use?

 

i wouldn't worry about that 10/40 it's fine in this weather.

 

I use Honda GN4 10w40. I buy it by the case & standardize all my stuff onto it.

 

Repsol Moto Racing 4T 10W-40 Full Synthetic. (5W-40 in the winter).
One of the few oils with an SJ API rating.

 

zx1100f1 I thought that a full synthetic in the KLX (if thats the bike your talking about) would make the clutch slip because of a build up it makes on the plates? true or not true...

 

bel ray, regular oil... filter, and 2 quarts 16$.

I don't have a KLX yet, but I use Shell Rotella in all my bikes now. Like a charm...

 

Just make sure it is a full synthetic for motorcycles and wet clutches. I use Mobil 4T Racing 10w/40 (available at my local Wal-Mart). My clutch works a whole lot smoother now, and my "missed shift" problem is gone too.

 

Ive just done my first oil change on my "new to me" KLX. I used some Castrol 10W-40 semi synth.
Honestly you cant buy a "bad" oil, the thing is to just keep it changed, even if you dont change the filter.
