Have managed to do a couple of rides on the 2018 KLX 330 now and all I can say is I wish I had done it sooner!
At my size (1.83m & 120kg +) the KLX 250 was never the best compared to bikes I had ridden growing up and the type of riding I do, but is the only option in Vietnam besides Honda CRF 250L
I bought the kit from Keng Engines in Thailand (he has a large selection of kits - can find him on facebook) and had it shipped over. With great difficulty finding a suitable mechanic to put it together, I managed to find one and got the bike back a week or so ago.
The bike required tuning on a Dyno and the guys were able to work it out the best they could with the EJK. There's a little backfiring occasionally on decel but I'll have one of the mechanics help me fine tune it further next ride. I may upgrade the fuel controller to DynoJet... will see next few rides.
The front sprocket was also changed to a 13 tooth. I lost quite alot of top end though, so we did the clutch switch mod and regained quite a bit. My friend rode it yesterday and hit 143km/h on a flat road. I would switch back to 14 tooth though if doing a longer, more road/ADV style ride.
I also fitted a 10.8L IMS copy to allow for higher fuel consumption. So far, so good!
As far as how it rides (besides the suspension upgrade being a massive improvement) I must say this bike now hauls and is exactly what I want. I've still got the Dunlop D605's on and mostly getting the bike up anything when not falling into deep ruts. She hangs out sideways quite nicely around corners, accelerates way better and lifting the front wheel is much more easy.
Ho well... now the dream is reality, it's time to get back into racking up the dirt miles and enjoy it.
