As the rule-of-thumb states, "if it's small enough to eat in one sittitng, don't even bother trying to avoid it"!

That's funny. I heard two "turkeys in the road" stories tonight from riding buddies. That time of year?

I would have been plucking and dining. Yummmm! Nothing wrong with fresh road kill.

I have a riding friend who took out five deer on a northern Idaho highway, on his beemer, slowing from 105 to around 85 mph before he hit the herd. Damn, that's a story for around the campfire. Guts galore.

Hope you brought it home for some delicious Turkey atleast!

Ive only had my bike license for 1 year, but ive been close to hitting some pidgeons already. Those damn things are really slow at getting out of the way!

A turkey is a big bird, it could have been much worse, I'd say you got off lucky.
I had a head on with a quail on the highway in my pick-up once that scared the crap out of me. I didn't even see it coming, it just exploded on my front windshield. The guts and feathers covered the windshield so bad I couldn't see anything and had to slam on the brakes, slowly pulled off the road and cleaned enough of it off that I could carry on to a place where I could wash the rest of it off.
I often think about that incident while I'm riding my bike, and when I do I usually either slow down or tuck my head down.

I Tee-boned a Black Lab and I did a SuperMan flying act. Odly the dog nor I ever walked right again.

Here is a starange bit about the story. This was on my 1982 XT200 way back in 1985. After hitting the dog the front rim had a flat spot and some dog hair wedged between the tire and rim. I sold the bike in 1988. In 2004 I found a 1982 XT200 for sale. I bought it for $25 it was fairly thrashed with a bent front rim...........and there was dog hair wedged beteen the tire and rim. I could never prove it was the same bike but I think so! I ended up giving it away becaseu I could not find all the parts it needed to get it back ruinning.

By the way we have lots of Turkeys here too. along with Moose, Deer, Bear, coyotees and dogs!

Years ago when my son was small we were on an old bike I had with him sitting in front of me on the tank with the setting sun in our eyes when I heard him say "look at all the turkeys", thank god for young eyes as I let off the gas and rode thru about 30 of them in the road but didn't hit any.

The big buck I saw today ran from me, as did the moose, but the turkeys, no...I came across, but didn't run into, 3 flocks on the back roads today. They are out for revenge in a kamikaze sort of way!!
