I would also probably agree on getting the Tusk bars at $24.99.I'm sure they will be much stronger than the stockers and have many bends and colors to choose from. Rocky Mountain has the Renthals for $64.99. I think you can do better on the 300 exhaust. I really have seen them for as little as $9.00 on e-bay and quite often in the $20.00 to $40.00 range. I still recommend spending the money on the FSW head pipe over the stock 300. Peg wideners areok but I would probably but new IMS pegs at about $85.00. Skid plate...... I have a well used Works Connection that I would let you have cheap if you want. It is straight and very usable, just scarred up from normal off road use. I doubt I have the foam or bolts for it. You really don't need the foam but it's cheap to buy. If you don't get the Utah skid plate that covers the water pump guard, I suggest a FSW water pump guard. For me it has been money well spent over and over as I'm sure I would have done damage to the cover on many occasions. Sounds like you are on your way. Have fun!

I have herd numerous people say "i used to race" and i don't know if they are trying to impress me or what but i ride better than everyone i herd say that..... So to me " i used to race" doesn't mean anything, until i see that your a good rider i wont believe anything. Just one of my pet peeves, i expect them to be all good and stuff.. and [sm=smiley21.gif] Maybe im a better rider than i think i am... i don't know. Just because you "used to race" doesn't mean you were good or are good.
Naw, you're not better than you think you are.......we've ridden together you are just comfortable with yourself and your abilities as well as humble.....it's a lot more fun to show up and be better on the trail than what everyone's expectations are . A true former racer would dust both of us on any bike. I have a friend that is a real former racer NOONE of our riding crew can get close to touching him (most of whom have been riding continuously riding for 20 years)......just a totally different league....btw he's really humble and funny to ride with and does some great squid imitations..

But there are plenty of people in any hobby/profession that claims that they are better than they really are...it's just a fact of life. I see it surfing all the time.....people talking $hit about how they can do this and that.....but when a BIG Swell comes in at Reef Road they can't even paddle out never mind catch a wave. But of course they have the best comp board with no dings and the best fins...blah...blah....blah....But I can smoke em on my 5 year old Ketchel which has been snapped in half once.

After garnering advice from this thread, my upgrade path seems to look sorta like this now:

Renthal bars 74 USD
Peg wideners 30 USD
DJ Kit 65 USD
UNI Filter 27 USD
Skidplate 70 USD
300 Can 70 USD?
D606s 120 USD? (where did you folks get your set from?)

Comes to about 466 USD

Thoughts?
Sorry for the derail...I didn't see your post. I'll post my suggestions takem or leave em.
- Take a look at MooseAl Raptor BendBars only $50 I think
- You can getMinkinu sp jets and a needle cheaper but the dyno needle does look good...could save$45 on this approx
- see above post regarding 300 header w/300 can
- Dunlop 606 are nice.....kenda trackmasters are cheaper and last longer on asphalt....at least the rear does.

Have fun shopping.

kind of serious power. I know you'll argue against me and that's cool because you love your bike and I respect that about you. But you know me, and I'm a realist. I will not sit here and tell anyone to "come to Iowa and I'll ride my old KLX and you can ride whatever KLX you want and you won't be able to keep up with me". That's a dumb statement to make simply because guys like nobrakes and his KTM or older KLX would kill us both anywhere anytime. However, the KTM dealer a mile away just had a brand new 525 sitting out in front, the EXC and it was very sweet. Love ya Deej.
While I love my EXC and wouldn't trade it for the world, don't drag me into this. I would never be so foolish to make any claims like that. All I have to say is that Deej must be awefully darn good, or he's just never been riding with good spread of skilled riders to give him a frame of reference.

One thing I will say though, and this pertains to many things, not just riding - you generally have the least to worry about from the ones who brag the loudest.

EXACTLY!

For the bars I'd be inclined to run the Tusk brand cheap bars. You can get 3 sets of them for the price of the Renthals. So you can try different bends instead of having a $75 set of bars that you don't like any more than the ones you replaced. When you find a bend you like in the Tusk, run em till you bend em. Then replace with the same bend in a "better" brand.
I agreee with this & I have Renthals. I got just went straight to CR highs though...had them on my last 3 bikes...its my standard

Watch Ebay for pegs, I got some older IMS for $18

The "DJ" kit can be had from RMMC by ordering a "K&N" kit for $48--its the same thing.

You need the entire 300 muffler, header, clamp, gasket between header & muffler, & good idea to replace gasket at the head too.

Ok, well i've found a Big Gun system for about 250 USD (won't say where you god damned vultures ), and was just wondering, what's the verdict on these things?

I've heard good things and bad things about them. I've seen websites saying they pull apart like they were designed to do so. Hell, thumpertalk is sponsored by them (and you all know how much I hate thumpertalk).

But well, you can't beat 250 USD for a full system!

So should I give it a go?
