Touring options??
Ohhh please, touring with the KLX250 (panniers, xtra gas, camping gear, etc.) is like towing a boat behind a Volkswagon bug! No fun at all! Go on Craigslist and buy yourself an old KLR650 or KLR600.
'Ohhh please' I've logged quite a few happy touring miles on mine. It doesn't feel bogged down at all, but you have to be realistic about what you carry.
Tremor, only if you're touring in Japan
From what I've seen just about everyone here in the States carry a huge sidearm, 500 rounds of ammo and they are 50 pounds overweight, it really weighs the bike down!

I'm not asking your opinion on what bike to use, and I completely disagree. Actually "adventure" touring on a 600 cc is no fun where I go (maybe some peoples idea of touring is driving down a long dirt road - not me) - I go light, very rough country and lots of single track etc. Yes a stock 250 is a bit of an ask, but +300 no problems and best capacity is 300-400 cc.
Just to highlight the good points - dont wear tyres and chains, more fuel efficient even when ringing its neck all day, wayyy better off-road capability, about 50kg lighter to start with and I have really light and compact gear. Bad bits, a bit more blowy on the road, cruise speed only 120 km/h rather than 140, - thats about it.
I would luv to see a verys where I go, cause KLE500's dont make it and they are way better off road.

No sweat, just go to .55 springs and gusset the frame before you hang the gattling gun
