Default TM36 on a stock displacement KLX

I wanted to post upa report after some use, and testing of how the TM36 is doing on my bike. Its not perfect, but as far as a perfomance improvement................its incredible. Throttle response is unbelievable, midrange is VERY solid, and topend must be improved, as I can cruise comfortably at 70 now (topend is somewhere between 85-90 stock gearing, with the jetted CV it was 75 tops, comfortable cruise at like 60-65). I still have some issues, but here is where Im at. Pilot at 15, fuel screw at 1 1/2 to 2 turns out (still cant figure which is better), main at a 130, needle position stock. (carb came with a 12.5 pilot, 130 main). It is definitley not the smoothest carb, as I have some idle issues after hard riding (wants to idle 500 rpm high for a minute or so), runs ALOT better when cold (cant figure that one out, easy staring when cold, have to use some throttle, and occasionally stay on it to start when warm), very little popping on decel, and ohh yeah VERY IMPORTANT airbox lid off, uni filter installed (massive improvement all around than with just snorkle removed). I am, however, running a bit lean (plug is a little white), and still have a slight stutter at very low rpms when opening throttle, the slower you do, the worse it seems. I am on a mission to richen it up, I just dont know where its lean. It runs better at 1 1/2 turns out than 2............so????? Maybe lower the needle down, or a bigger main???? Bet NONE of you thought Id be lean, huh!!! I was suprised!!

Sounds like you are a littlerich on the bottom. I would maybe drop back to the 12.5 pilot and then richen the top end a little if you think and the plug says that you are lean. You may also have to adjust when the AP starts to come on to get rid of the stutter at low rpm. I think that I remember hearing the other guys using the tm36 saythat they had some of the same problem with stutter until they had this adjusted.

Mine rips thru the whole range! It will pull the front end up now in 4th in the sand. I couldn't be happier!
