Tire sizes? + Anybody running a 130mm rear?
Ok, trying to sort this. Stock rear tire on the 07KLX is a 4.60-18. Thats an inch size tire. Someone on here posted that a 5.10 -18 is smaller than a 4.60-18? Thats not right is it? Inch sizes are the cross section width, larger # is a wider tire. Right?
I have also read that the 120/90-18 is a close replacement in the metric size. That makes sense because 4.60" = 116.8 mm, so the 120/90-18 is a tad wider, and its cross section height is 90% of the width (105mm or 4.13 inch). Right?
A 130/90-18 tire comes out to 5.11 inch wide, about a half an inch wider than stock, is that too wide?
Thanks , Dan

He speaks the truth...switching to a trackmaster II 110 from a 120 made a noticeable difference....I would run a 100 if I was in hard pack...but the 110 seems the best compromise in sugar sand.
I'm running a Dunlop 606 120/90-18" and it seems a lot bigger than stock. I was confused by the 5.10 is bigger comment as well. It performed great off-road though.

i run the Trackmaster II 120/100-18. I think the 120 is about as wide as your going to get. Me personally I like the little wider tire because I do alot of street riding. I also like the wider tire because it does not wash out in the really muddy stuff as bad as the stock tires did. That tire I think is a little wider and a little taller than stock.

I put the 5.10-18 Kenda 270 on my '06. It is definitely wider than the stock tire. It fits fine.
im running 2 18 inch wheels i used the dura 120 90 18 in the back and 100 90 18 up front they look really wide but no mushroon affect and they handle great i will post pics of the progress tommorow
Thanks for all the replies. My old Dunlop 603 measures about 4.80 wide, its marked 4.60x18 . That makes me leary of mail ordering a tire thats supposed to be 5.11" (130mm) wide. How wide is it really? The swingarm measures aprox 6 inches wide, so I don't want to get a tire that is supposed to be 5.11", but with ***** stickng outmeasures 5.5". I think I want more than a quarter inch clearance on either side of the tire. Tom said the 130mm wide K270's fit, but I wonder how close the Dunlop 606's would be to the swing arm? How much room do you have on either side of your K270 Tom?
OK I just ordered a tire etc. I kinda chickened out and went with a 120/90-18 Dunlop 606 from rocky mt atv.
