Marty, do you think we could get a group discount on the bore? I know another guy in Sanford who is thinking of doing this as well.

I have just received an e-mail from Marvin at Kustom-Kraft with a price.

At present, it's $840. He is looking for a good source of 300 cylinders and then he can drop the price by about $50.

Okay, now I've been inspired by the selflessness of cwgoff with the group buy on the skid plate.

If you're interested in a group buy on the 331 cc kit from Kustom-Kraft, send me a PM and then on Monday, October 30th, I'll send along an e-mail to Marvin asking about a "group price".

The worst they can say is "NO".

There will be a whole lot more Big Bore ****** 'round these here parts!

Do you think we'll need a separate forum - KLX331BBW ?

After this past weekend of strafing the guys on KLR650's, I can't wait until our next encounter when I'm running my 331 cc KLX. I'll just have to act quite nonchalantly and not mention anything being different. But I guess that group knows me too well. They'll figure something is up. This will be fun running away and hiding on the uphill portions!

I'm not sure where Marvin is getting the quote on the cylinder but $840 sounds high. If you punch in the part number over at Ron Ayers, the cylinder is $310. Marvin charges $440 for the boring and kit which comes to $750 total. So it sounds to me you might be better off buying the cylinder yourself and shipping it. Shipping is going to be a lot less than the $90 difference. If he can cut the price by $50 or so like you mentioned, then that might be getting close enough that it's not worth the hassle to get the cylinder elsewhere.

Uhh, Brian the $840 is for the "KIT" piston, rings, pin, gaskets and cylinder already bored.

This is a bolt-on. I thought $840 was excellent!

But the $440 he charged me also included the piston, gaskets, piston pin, and piston pin clips and included the boring. The only difference was that I first shipped him my old cylinder, which cost me $310. If I'm missing something, I'm just too dense to see it right now, which is possible since I've only had two cups of coffee this morning

Okay, I'll be doing a lot more negotiating. While it's not a BAD price, from what you're saying, it could be better.

Thanks!

Yeah, it's not a bad price - I think you are within $50 or so. If you go my route, you have to pay shipping to get the new cylinder to you, and then ship it to him. Of course, he has to pay shipping also, so it's not like he doesn't have expenses. Either way, it's pretty darn close and if the price was anywhere below $800 I think that would put it in the sweet spot. Heck, I paid $750 + shipping + my bike was apart for two weeks, so with that in mind, I think I would pay the extra money in my case to have my bike operational instead of having to endure the two weeks of down-time.

I'm waiting with baited breath to hear how yours is running - and then once again with the pumper carb.

I keep looking at the cams here and keep telling myself NO, but I'm totally deaf. It's been awhile since I've gone totally out and built something the way I want it. So, I might just start 2007 out in proper style:

o 331 cc kit

o FCR Pumper carb

o Larry Roeseler's Favorite Cam

o Race Tech fork work and springs

I think I can make some folks sit up and notice the little green bike when it's in a herd of KLR650's! Might be a lot of fun!

Add your HMF or otherwise favorite flavor of pipe to that list and I think you've got a winner!

BTW, I did another heat cycle of break-in at lunch today. If I lived as close to work as Deej does, I probably could have done two cycles.

Gettin' closer to winding this puppy out a little ... I'll do a couple more this evening and tomorrow evening and Saturday may be the day.
