Surge at 6500 rpm at highway speed
Ha. I thought that was the only way to do a wiring project!
Snypa, and KLX250s_s, I suggest raise up the needle a little. If its stock, put a washer under it. I am not sure if its your problem. Its where I would start for now.
Seth6025, In school, 30 years ago I was taught most of your carburetor problems are in the distributor (Ignition). They were right.
Its great to see good results. Thanks again main250SF!
KLX250s_s. Replacing the ground or adding it should make no difference. Perhaps this was not your problem.

Adjusted the mixture 1/2 out, rode 25 mi. only noticed 1 hiccup and engine runs much better, def noticeable diff. Guess i could go another 1/2 turn out..? FYI, in order to rmv the mix screw plug I just loosend the boots, rmv throttle cables and rotated the carb about 90*, enought to drill + pull the plug.....thx for the help
now to me...I got an fmf Q4 used($100) off a ktm450 and a KN air filter. Ive got the box cover off. Wow its loud(intake). I have the DJ132 main and needle set to 3rd and a/f 3 turns out
Sounds like its running outta power around 8500. Still lean? will placing the box cover back on help at upper range?
I could start my own tread but am really only asking 2 of the guys that have been keeping up on this thread and I will just remove my question when I figure it out. Unless some1 could point out where this has already been asked
I really hope I don't jinx myself here, but I'm pretty sure my bike is 100% fixed now due to this thread.
I had the same higher RPM stumble that has been reported by many and just assumed that I didn't have my jetting exactly right.
After Maine250SF posted about the electrical mod that his dealer performed, I did the mod today the way David R posted.
I made a jump wire out of decent gauge wire and soldered a ring connector on one end. I removed the black w/yellow wire from the harness and soldered my jump wire to it. The clear plastic harness protector even has a neat pre existing hole that I snaked the jump wire through. Then, just connected it where the existing ground wire mounts to the engine case.
Connected it all back together and went for a test ride. NO surging whatsoever at any RPM. The stumble/surging at higher RPM's is gone as well as an intermittent low RPM stumble I had from goosing it hard from a stop.
All I can say is this simple mod made my bike a new bike.
Thanks to Maine250SF for posting the original info and for all the guys who did the mod and their posts that I used to then do my own.
This is an awesome forum with really great people!

Hey guys I'm glad the repair seems to be working for everyone. I don't think the dealer would have figured it out with out the tips i got from all of you and pointing at the regulator. So I also thank all of you and glad the bikes seem to be better!
Accually maybe someone should rewrite the question/problem and the fix all together with referances to posts by other users of the issues from this thread. And have THAT a sticky.?
Thanks Main250SF and David R for the input on the bucking problem. I bought my 2009 250S early this spring and had the bucking problem from the getgo. I first thought the previous owner had a pipe on it and took it off when he sold it to me and never rejetted it back to stock. I couldn't understand why a relatively new bike with only 800 miles on it would run so poorly. Love the bike otherwise. I had a '94 Yami XT225 but needed an updated bike with some more umph (longer legs on the highway). I'm going to try the regrounding idea. Thanks again...just wish I read this before I had my husband tear the bike apart to get the carb off.
