supermoto 250s or get rid of it?



I say buy the supermoto kit, and do some mods. Yea, you might spend $2000 more, but imagine the little rocket youll have, and the fun taking it out and smokin your buds on the twisties
The bike is what it is, its a 250 cc dual sport that is acceptable in the dirt and acceptable on the road, master of none but does it all. Kinda like a 4 in one screw driver.
That being said, they are very fun to ride and down right flickable in traffic, and in supermoto trim or even in dual sport trim with more street oriented tires its fun on the street. ( not so much with pure knobbies, thats more for connecting trails). You would be shocked what a set of tires can do for either dirt or street performance.
My vote would be look for some very street oriented tires in 21 inch and 18 inch size or buy a used street bike that you can pay cash for (paying cash and having the title in your name allows MUCH cheaper non-full coverage insurance.) and keep the 250. I wouldnt be surprised if the dealer offers you less than half of what you owe. Doesnt hurt to ask though, let us know what you decide!
You already bought it so you must of liked it, spend the money to explore tire options (after reading a ton) and then re-evaluate. IF it still sucks in your opinion, then make your decision.
Thats why I have 4 bikes, 650 is set up as more long haul type bike, 450 is cafe racer bare bones jones, KTM is a project and the yz is for the pure dirt raping experience. As more money comes the fleet will be updated accordingly. I do spend most of my time on the 250 though because it can do it all. Its my swiss army knife.

just mod the living hell out of the bike, trust me. then get a lot of time in on the bike. the right mods change the bike so much. i would go in this order tires, jetting/air filter, front springs, exhuast. other than that, the mods are mostly cosmetic (black platics (drool), lights, bling) or personal (higher bars, pegs, gearing). right after i got my bike, i was kinda disapointed. low power, soft suspention, still heavy, was really wishing i got a drz. now with all the mods i have done, and time on the bike so i can ride 200% better than when i got it, i keep up with just about any other dual sport, any where besides the freeway and long strights (still need 351 kit, but that later). wouldnt sell the bike now, oh ya, i cant i still owe for like another 4 years

I've been considering a older yz125 for a scrub sugar sand weapon...but I was concerned it may be a little light on the ummph factor. How much do you weigh? I'm about 170lbs, can I spring an old one like you got to support my azzzz?
Im about 150 ready to ride, (boots helmet etc) and the suspension is great for trails and light motocross work but i wouldnt let it sail like some of these guys do on modern stuff. My appeal to the bike was that it was cheap (150 bucks) and ive had 3 of them prior out of that era so i had extra parts parts parts. Im currently waiting until next season, i wanna sell it and get a modern 250 2 stroke (welcome to the year 2000!) something that needs a top end or some other kinda work, thats how i get all my stuff
