To all sunstar 13t owners:

How does it fit on our bike?
What about the extra wear that everyone is talking about, did someone notice a faster wear?

 

Well mine hasn't shown a bit of wear in 5000 miles, and I was the first one to post that it would wear out sooner. Whoops my bad. I also posted way back when that it made a lot more noise. But you only notice it if you stand up and lean forward. Plus with the Muzzy you can't hear anything at all.

 

The jolly man in the big brown sleigh just delievered mine so I can't give you an answer yet.

 

I heard so many different stories about the front sprocket, good to hear this!!! Keep posts coming about that. I don't think noise will bother me, I was more concerned about the wear. I just received mine yesterday, will get on the installation next... Hey Deej! what about the fit and installation?

I believe the concern was that the chian would wear more quickly. This is based on the tighter turn it takes with the smaller gear. As for the sprocket, they're pretty inexpensive so who cares if they wear a little quicker.

 

I used a Moose sprocket, but the results are the same. I haven't noticed any louder noise and I have the stock exhaust. I mean, come on, how much noise could a sprocket make? Maybe if I rode without a helmet I might notice a difference. If there is any extra wear on the chain, it would be miniscule, I don't see how that could be a big deal either.

The Moose sprocket was a direct bolt-on. For easiest install, use a pneumatic impact wrench. No kidding there.

 

I think Deej had to get a spacer made to have it fit properly. It didn't have ashoulder built into the sprocket. If you order a 13 tooth for a honda xr650L it will fit perfectly with no spacer needed.

 

He's not kidding. An air gun didn't even work for me (maybe i have a punnie one). I had to put a 4 1/2 foot breaker bar on the end of my ratchet, and have someone else sit on the bike and press on the brakesinorder crack that nut loose.

 

Yeah, I was doing the job myself and tried everything to no avail. Then I remembered my impact wrench. I felt stupid for not using it first. It took that nut off in about 3 seconds. Bingo!

 

I did have to get a machine shop to mill a spacer for me. I think I traded them a dozen donuts However I still don't like the fact that there are two parts in there. So does the Honda 650 13 tooth have a shoulder built in? If so I will probably be changing it eventually.
