No, Im fast, but pretty average Owen, but in mixed terrain/ clay with water crossings and serious hills you need to run like sub 12 to get uphill traction. I run 15 front, 12 back checked before the ride and am always prepared to drop pressures to retain traction. In fact sometimes it gets so slippery that letting nearly all the air out is an option, it widens the tread.

Yeah understood, On most of my dual sports I used to run low-ish road pressures then drop when i got to the ride, but now the bikes get to the ride on a trailer. I keep forgettin that a lot of the guys on here ride trails.
On the road it pays to run the recommended pressures or else you end up motarding everywhere and wearin rubber out. all good here

I ride for fun, all my real crazy stuff i did years ago, so I like to ride on the controlled side of the line so to speak.
We have a "trail ride "series running every 2nd weekend and its like an enduro but with no timing or points, it is for fun. Bout 300-800 bikes, you always end up meeting folks. A good place to hook up with other riders is the local specialist dirt bike shop on a friday night or saturday morning and even contact some clubs.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm orderinga heavy duty tube and a rim lock this morning.
I still don't get why Honda would put a rim lock on a CRF150F but Kawi skipped it on the 250. A little extra protection can never hurt. Neither can peace of mind.

One other thing I would like to add...Use Windex when mounting tires. Some people use other lubes and that can be the reason the tire slips on the rim. We don't use rim locks but we also know that lower tire pressures are the main reason to use them. Its a dual sport and tire balancing is easier accomplished without them or at least with a lot less weight. I suppose using 2 rimlocks in the right place and the heavy (or light) spot of the tire where it belongs etc etc...you may balance it with a normal amount of weight. I never slipped a tire and tore a tube in my life. Running with 22 psi you should have no problems...Unless you used WD40 and did a hole shot!

I have 3200 miles. I have had a problem only when the air pressure is low. I keep 2 tubes in my garage incase this happens again. it happened when the bike was kinda new a little over a year ago. I switched to pirelli tires front and rear. If u want a rimlock u can get one at www.cyclegear.com or your local cycle gear store has them as well. I thought about getting 2 one for front one for rear but I changed my mind cause I want to be able to change tires in a hurry if i have a problem with the tube, Also they can be a cause of a flat if the tube rubs on the rimlocks.

I don't think the lack of rim locks left you stranded. I think it is the lack of air in your tires. I have several thousand hard miles on my bike without locks and have never felt it slip. Air up your tires when your on the road it rides and handles better and your tires will last much longer.

One other thing I thought about after this incident is what if the front tire pressure was low? I can tell you that when my rear tire slipped on the rim there was very little control of the bike almost immediately.
If the front tire pressure is low on a KLX and if the rider slams on the brakes to avoid a collision then the front tire could slip on the rim and disaster would ensue. Remote as the possibility may be, the possibility still remains.
My predicament was undoubtedly due to low tire pressure. That's on me. Be safe.
