Default Stock Carb with Big Bore kit or 300cc kawa jug

Is anyone here running the stock carb, rejetted obviously with any of the the big bore kits, ie Bill Blues 331, kk331 or thumper racing 340cc?

I have the Bill Blue mikuni. The a/f screw seems to keep backing off making the bike go rich.

I am thinking about going back to the stock carb and using the dj kit for 300cc klx. I currently have an 07 klx250 with the kdx snorkle, and a big gun exhaust.

Eventually I am going to either go with the 331 big bore or the 300cc kawa parts. Just curious what everyone else is seeing with reliability issues with regard to stock carb rejetting vs the mikuni pumper.

I know right now my gas milage is crap about 50-60mpg vs the 70+ I used to get prior to doing the pupmer and exhaust.

I am planning the same thing with my bike. I will be putting on the BB331, full Delta exhaust, and DJ KLX300 stage II kit. I will be going with the 132 jet, starting at the third notch on the needle, A/F screw out 2 and see how it runs. I have read that the stock carb works very well, if properly jetted, with the 331 and exhaust. Also, I am running with no snorkel, AIS removed, and crankcase vent drilled at the airbox. I have not taken my carb off the bike yet, so I don't know if it has ever been drilled, jetted, etc. by the previous owner.

Anyone else out there with experience in this department? big bore with CVK? Anyone?

send the carb back to BB and make him fix it. some people would die for that pumper you have. may as well make it work.

I ran with a jetted CVK, BG exhaust and the Kawa 300cc jug for around a year before switching to Bill's 34 Mikuni pumper.

No looking back.
IMHO the pumper was the thing that really woke the bike up.
Peak power may or may not be significantly more, but the response accross the rev range is much better now.
It drives harder and spins up quicker.

What more could you want?
Don't answer that.

Neil, when you ran with the stock CVK, what jetting setup did you use?

I'd suggest emailing Bill and see what he says, I've been running the carb for maybe about a year now and no problems with anything moving or changing.

I used the 132 main and followed the instructions that came with the stage 2 Dynojet kit.
Can't remember exact needle position etc and I have given the carb to a mate so I can't go and have a look.
Play around, I got mine running OK.

But, if you have, or are considering a pumper, don't mess about with the CVK. The pumper is simply a better carb for this bike.

IMHO CVK's have there place but not on a dirt bike.

My mate Rob runs a 300 jug, with my old CVK carb.
It's better than stock but still way short of the "zap" I get.
At every RPM, in every gear.
Top gear roll ons etc etc.

I totally agree with other comments.
Get the pumper fixed or set up properly.

I only ride mine on the road, so I don't really need that "snap", so I think the CVK will do me fine.

I here what you are saying but it still pulls harder on the road with a pumper.
Overtaking for example is easier and safer.
You can pull higher gears and still get good acceleration.

That's been my experience anyway.

I will admit that I didn't put a huge effort into getting the best from the CVK.

Bill has been very helpfull. I would recommend anyone who is looking into a big bore kit to go the Bill Blue way if not for anything other than the service. The kk kit seems way to expensive, thumper racing never replies to emails, Bill always gets back to me within a reasonable amount of time. The value of good service is priceless in imho.

I had the local kawa dealer install and jet the carb for me. Then they re-tuned the carb last week when I brought it back because it went so rich it would not start. They said the fuel screw had backed itself out. They tried a little dab of thread locker on the threads. We will see.

I may be going back to the stock carb. Due to the fact this is my primary mode of transpo to get to work when the sun is shinning. I have to have reliability over performance. Dont get me wrong, the bike moves out now, and I like it.

It may not make a difference this year. Woke up this morning and feels like I broke my leg yesterday while I was out riding. Rear wheel washed out on me while blazing though a mud hole. Flippin Bark buster tagged the inside of my knee. Ouch it hurts!!! Going to Dr in a little bit to get it checked out.
