Default Speedo reading X 2

My speedo seems to be reading almost double. It was reading out 120 on the freeway yesterday. I wish I could say I was going that fast but i was really only going anywhere from 65-85 tops. Maybe sand found its way into the sensor from the dune trip? Any ideas?

I would reseat electrical connectors and grounds around the speedo assembly.
The speedo works by counting electrical pulses from the sending unit. Sometimes a pulse counter will see noise from a bad connection as a lot of pulses.
