probably because the bike calls for the regular copper core plug.

I've been running the regular plugs myself, can't seem to bring myself to spend the extra money on the fancy plugs.

wc, this may be one of those areas where the product actually delivers its stated claims. While preparing for my annual Utah trip recently I pulled my 5-year old NGK Iridium out for inspection. It has the same gap with no degradation of the metal surfaces at the point of spark. I also recently changed the Iridium plugs out of my wife's Ecotech Chevy 4-cylinder at the 100K mark as suggested by the service schedule. The plugs still had the factory gap with no pitting or deposits. The car was running like the day it was new and still providing the same mileage return. Since using Iridium plugs for quite a few years now, I've observed the same results in all my applications. A friend bought by '01 KLR650, and it still has the same Iridium plug in it at 50K.

It's not that the plugs provide any better spark than a good copper core/nickel plug...they just provide the same spark for much longer to maintain performance and mileage. The darned things seem virtually indestructible.

ive got iridium plugs in my car and have been quite satisfied with thier performance.

it just that i've never owned a carbed motorcycle that didnt have the spark plug quit working or diminish long before the electrodes were worn, they all seemed to "foul out" before wearing out.

i would rather toss out and replace a $2 plug than a $10 plug every 10,000 miles.
