Soon to be Joining the Big Bore Ranks
Just settled with an e-bay seller for his blown up KLX300's cylinder. The cylinder looked pretty bad and had a chunk missing from the lower skirt but after talking to Bill Blue, it appears to be useable as that lower section gets removed for his special treatment anyway.
NoBrakes, I'm running with the airbox lid, no snorkel, and the KLX300 stock exhaust with a 125 main and stock pilot. I found when I removed the lid I had a lean surge at high rpm so I think I'm about right with the lid on for my current setup. The question is what would you suggest I change the jetting to for the 331?

Another big bore, I'd still love to ride a big bore KLX just so I could see what the difference felt like. You can only get so much from reading what others say it feels like.

If I recall, I bumped the main to 130 and raised the needle one clip position. I was previously running a 125 and 2nd clip position so that took it to 130 and 3rd clip position. I think I might have been using the dual snorkel setup at that point, and if you pull the airbox lid, you might want to try a 132 main.
This was a really good setup - the CV carb had a real strong mid-range pull.
You probably want to be a little on the rich side while you are breaking in the new cylinder, though. When I was doing mine, I think I bought a 128, a 130, and a 132 along with a 40 pilot, so I could experiment a bit. I didn't use the pilot. The 130 jet and raising the needle made all the difference.
I think I'll grab a 128 and 130 then as I don't think the KLX300 exhaust is quite as free flowing as the Muzzy. I did the math and no snorkel has more inlet area than the dual snorkel, jets are cheap maybe I'll grab the 132 as well. Now I need to liquidate some of my Radio Control stuff to get a money order sent over to Bill so he can work his magic. I like to keep my "toys" funded by selling one and dumping that cash into another, keeps my checkbook happier that way
Eric, if you find a used cylinder, its actually the same price or cheaper than going to just the 300. I'm looking at ~$550 including the cylinder and Bill's parts and labor, compared to $330 for just a new 300 cylinder.
