It might be possible to bore the 250 to a 300 but that would hardly be worth it since you can just buy the 300 ready to go. Typically you only resort to boring if there is not already a ready made size since boring, treating, and rehoning is so expensive.

I understand about being leary of used engine parts. I'm going to talk to Jerry at least once more before I commit. The piston and rings aren't that expensive - the bulk of the cost is the cylinder itself, at least that was the case for the my 300cc kit. Out of $470 in parts, I think the cylinder was something like $330 or something like that.

It's not a given that I'll send my 300 jug to him. I believe that I will be paying him for a 300 cylinder. I will either send him my cylinder back and recover my "deposit", or I'll sell it myself. If I sell it myself, it will be as a 300 cc kit - not including the parts that you can't reuse, such as the gaskets and the piston pin clips. If you are interested, we can work something out. The parts are used, so I'm not looking to get full price of course and they will be well taken care of. If you plan on running with the 300cc cylinder, the piston and rings will be useful, but if you plan on getting the 300cc bored to 330, then you don't need the piston or rings. I'd rather sell them all together, since I'll have no use for the 300 piston by itself.

There's not big rush, though, I don't plan on doing any of this for at least another month.

Just to be clear, the 250cc cylinder is not an underbored 300cc - the water coolant passages have a different profile and the wall thicknesses are different on the 250 vs the 300. This makes the 250 cylinder inappropriate for overboring - at least that's my understanding. You do still have to get the 300cc cylinder if you want to go to 331 or higher.

And yes, I'll be happy to offer my 300cc cylinder + piston + rings for a good price. They are in excellent condition, only lightly used
Send them to deej for cleaning and you can sell them for dble lol

That's great info and research Brian, well done. Pure speculation on my part I'm guessing if you wanted to bore out the 250 you could go to around 280cc or so, but like you said why bother when you can buy off the shelf 300cc parts

Actually to bore, hone and nik a cylinder it is only around $230 or so. That is $100 cheaper than a new one. I would be fine with the 300 equipment for another year or so. Then I would progress to the 331. I guess what I am trying to say is that I am interested in the lot.

Sounds good, Cowboy 6. I e-mailed Jerry that I wanted to proceed - I don't know how long everything will take, he mentioned before it might be 6 weeks or so. Once I get my new parts and have them installed, I'll lay out the 300 parts and take some detailed photos and if you are still interested then we can work something out.

Cool. I will not be doing anything until winter anyway so, whenever you are ready is fine with me.
