Default Snorkel

Ok..........I'm new here and new to the KLX250S so I can have at least one dumb question.

I read some owners are removing the "snorkel" when installing a new exhaust, header pipe, and re-jetting.
Can you tell me exactly what your removing on the air-box? Does it just come off or what?
Also, what is the recommended airbox mods without adding a bunch of noise.

thanks...

The snorkel is the rubber "L" shaped piece in the air box lid. The air flows through it. Just pull it out if you want to remove it. With my jetting, the bike runs like crap with the snorkel in or out...I removed the lid for good running, but this is with MY jetting/pipe/filter setup. Your results may be different. This may add some noise, but I can't really tell as the pipe is a tad noisy also.

TNC removed the snorkel and cut some additional out of his air box lid. Others have drilled holes in the lid or box.

I think if it were me and I wanted a snorkel to keep noise down and reduce chances of water in the box during deep water crossings, I'd get the KDX200 snorkel that many others have installed. It has larger air flow passages but fits from what others have said. I may go this direction if/when I get a quieter pipe.

Thanks..........your always very helpful even with us new guys that are just learning.

Here is what I found by looking at the OEM parts for the 2009 KLX250s vs 2006 KDX200.
By the drawing the KDX looks much larger and beefier in comparison. Looks like the box lid will need to be cut bigger to accommodate but that shouldn't be a big deal.
The KDX snorkel is cheaper also!

2009 KLX250S $27.21

2006 KDX200 $23.68

I run without a snorkle but no extra holes drilled and I can't here any extra noise but I have a powercore4 exhaust so that may be why. Any way decide on your set-up and jet for that. Do not mod the airbox and run the bike long without a rejet.

I'm pretty sure others have said the KDX snorkel is a direct fit for their 06 & 07 bikes, even though the pics make it look larger.

The hole in both lids are the same size. It is a direct replacement for the snorkel
