When I briefly ran the N1TC needle, I initially set the needle at #3 and it surged when cruising, part throttle. I readjusted it to the leanest setting and it stopped. Now I run the stock needle with two shims under it, it hesitates slightly when I release the throttle. Not a show stopper...

 

So this past weekend I was out for a ride. I still got the surge. The fuel pump I stopped at had a broken button for regular gas, so I put in a gallon of mid-grade fuel. Surge was gone. I was shocked. I also hit my reserve at the 85 mile mark. It's always been at the 95 mile mark for the past 5000 miles using regular gas.
