My 2009 does the same thing and it also concerned me when I first saw it. I made sure the bolt was as tight as I could get it and it still does it. I've since ignored it and have also been using the kickstand to get the back wheel off the ground for easier chain lubing... I sure hope nothing breaks on me.

The bolt isn’t completely threaded, so super tightening only does so much. I think it’s just uneven wear from 9 years of use. A replace is certainly best, but if you have a grinder, the nylon washer will make it less wobbly. I’m gonna be less cavalier when I sit on it, though.

Go to Harbor freight and buy one of their swing arm lift stands, works great at $32. Set the pads, slide it under the swing arm, rock down and up comes the rear wheel, ready to remove or just to oil chain.

I can't find em that cheap in Canada although I did find
this jack this jack
which doesn't seem too expensive. I'm assuming a jack would be better all around since I can use it to work on the front wheel, forks, steering tube, etc.

In my recent experience, danpluso, those kind of stands suck... I took one of those right back and got one of these. Maybe Canadian Amazon has them... I know it's an issue.
Keeps the bike super steady and is easy to raise and lower, with control. Way better than that foot activated joke that seems designed to tip the whole mess over when you step on that lever. Just no.

Probably me and MaximusPrime talking about using the side stand to lift the rear wheel slightly so it can spin. It makes lubing the chain an easy job when by yourself.

Or maybe as an alternative option... Just completely remove the side stand from the bike and carry the jack in your backpack wherever you go :P

I have that harbor freight stand. Love it. Also have the craftsman motorcycle jack (the yellow one). Also awesome.

on topic, I'm also guilty of sitting on the bike on it's side stand. Usually just for a few minutes until the boss comes and opens up the workplace. I'm quite honestly going to continue doing that, but if it makes any difference, i weigh about a buck and a half soaking wet. Lol

However, i will be keeping an eye on the side stand wobble. Thanks for the heads up

interestingly, my chain just coated itself in purple powder, so I'll be lifting the bike on Wednesday, installing new chain, cog, a couple of sliders and a manual cam chain tensioner, so the lift will be in play... and the day will be long :^ )

One of the guys rocked their bikes on the side stand to lube the chain. A stand is better.
