Default Rotopax on stock rack?

Has anyone mounted a rotopax on the stock rack or have any ideas of a good way to mount one on tube-type racks? If I knew someone that could do light welding I'd just have them add a metal plate over the center of the rack, but I'm not that lucky.

Speaking from experience with this...
Do not mount to the farther back than above the rear rack mounting bolts. Probably should double check those bolts regularly, maybe even reinforce those bolts & the cross bracket if possible.
On my last DS ride I came out of lunch ready to finish the last A leg of the day and the whole back side of the bike was swaying in the wind. I had lost 2 of the bolts, the cross bracket was sheared off, etc. I got a welder to redue the bracket. Haven't tried my work yet.
Don't think I ever knew exactly what I hit due to the dust, but I did have a couple of pretty big hits.

For mounting, I took the standard Rotax mount, got a heavy electrical J-box coverplate, and put bolts between the Rotax on top & the plate under the rails. Put a few special cut wood shims, inside the rails to lock the bolts vertical and horizontally stablizing the system inside the rails. That part did not fail.

Default Home made mount

I made a mount to go on my Nomadic rack that can be easily removed when not in use. I use a Koplin 1.50 gal can and mount which is close to the Rotopax system. I made this with aluminum, soft clamps, and bolts & nuts. I have used this mount on many long rides in Death Valley and have never had any problems. I also strap my trail bag on top.

Cap should be on the rear, not as seen in the photo.

Thanks, I like the soft clamp idea.

Good to know about the rack, I'll try to keep it as close to the seat as I can. I didn't realize the frame under the rack was so flimsy.
