After the airshow August 1, some of the traffic was directed out a taxi-way , down the runway, and out the other side of the airport. It really worked well to ease congestion. My son and I had ridden the bike to the show, because the local Harley dealer offers free VIP parking for bikes. It was very hard to resist cracking the throttle and racing down the entire length of the runway.

Great airshow!! The FA-18 and A-10 really put on great shows, and the Thunderbirds are always awesome.

Business end of the A-10 warthog. The 30mm cannon. 30mm is 1.181 inches in diameter. The round before firing is over 11 inches long.. This thing fires 70 rounds per second,, 70 per second!! It must be a solid stream of metal.

What beautiful aircraft.

The Warthog's gun is unmatched. Its 21 feet long, and weights 3000 lbs. With an accuracy of up to 3 miles at 4,000 rounds per minute. It is not a plane with a gun, its a gun with a plane attached.

Cool!

Base safety used to have an annual runway ride near the end of riding season. This usually happened after a sit down training session to cover quarterly safety training requirements.

About 2 years ago, the base commander, who happened to be a rider, was participating in the ride when a few ham-fisted squids in the group decided to turn it into a top speed contest. We've never done it since then.

Great stuff, I've flown R/C aircraft on a navy base runway but never driven / ridden on a runway. I've got some great pix of an FA18.

Tremor, Isn't that the way it goes? Always some clown messing it up for the rest of us.
Here's another.
It was hot out, every body wanted some shade.

A couple great shots from others at the show.
FA-18 flirting with the sound barrier. +1 to all the comments about the FA-18, awesome.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!?!??! that is THE closest I have ever seen that maneuver pulled off. It looks as if their bottoms stabilizers there are touching.

I think its a bit of an illusion. I'm pretty sure they are offset a little, and not directly over one another. If I'm wrong about that, then they are very close indeed!!! They sure are lined up front to back too. I like your comment about the plane being mounted to the gun, sounds funny but thats pretty much what it is.
