Is this right?
Should the be a chain noise from the top end of the engine? I know the timing chain is there but I just feel like it is unusually loud.
Also Im having a tough time tuning my carb. When I decelerate quick or engine break, my bike gurgles a lot and pops some. My setup is two brothers slipon #128 MAIN #35 pilot 3.25 turn out on a/f screw snorkle removed. Pittsburgh elevation 1200 ft.
With that set up the gurgling makes me think Im running lean, but I have a lot of black stuff on my exhaust tip which makes me think its rich. Also I only put high octane (I think 92 or 93) in.
Also is proper idle (1300 rpm) one bar or two bars after 1000 mark.(see pic below)
Today I removed the airbox lid to see if it helps but havent tested yet.

P.S. Not sure if I ever showed you guys the reflective decals I made. They are black during the day but when lights hit them at night they reflect white!

Is the chain noise in the engine the classic "rocks shaking in a coffee can" at around 5000 rpm? If so, cam chain tensioner may be the culprit. Look up Krieger's manual tensioner -- I have one now. This is very common with our bikes.

I'm betting you are rich, too. 128 and more than 3 turns out on a stock engine is a recipe for rich. Don't worry so much about the gurgling/popping on deceleration...if it's really bad, make sure you don't have an exhaust washer leak, or, a leak at the slip-on connection. And, for heavens's sake, use 87 Octane...the black soot you see COULD be a result of the additives required to boost the octane above 90....even if it's not additive soot, it's a waste of money with no increase in performance.
I used to have the a/f screw around 2.5 but the popping worse then. A dirtbike mechanic said I should go at least with a 45 pilot jet to stop the popping. This seems way to big.

Your rich especially if your exhaust is stock and there is no need to go up on the pilot even if you have a performance exhaust and do not let the guy who suggested the 45 pilot ever touch your bike.
