I snapped mine too, but it was a sharp rock that caused it. It was still hanging onto the bike though, I rode the rest of the day on it. Yours had to have been on it's last legs from an earlier ride. I just sucked it up and ordered the replacement part through ronayers. Spendy, but a solid fix.
The mount does have that little bend that is prone to catching rocks, maybe welding on a piece of metal to make it more of a slider would help?

cmott - that one almost looks bent - I'm not sure if that's the normal angle of that stud, or if it should be bent a bit.. Makes me not want to chance it.
