Default Rich / Lean

Re-jetted to a 128 main and set the clip on the middle slot with the fuel screw turned out 2.5 turns. The bike runs well but boggs a bit and my exhaust is pretty sooty. Does that mean I'm running lean? What adjustements should I make and how do I know if I'm close to the right F/A mix?

You really need to make sure the pilot circuit is set before moving on to the mid range (needle clip position) and top end (main jet). The link is the procedure I always use and have had good luck with. I don't have a starter so it may be much more difficult to access with yours.

Thanks for the link John.

I'll try that.

It was real easy to get to when it was on the bench.

At the risk of sounding like a complete moron,......................................again,

If the bike is running well why is running lean bad for your engine?

lean is HOT and can burn things .......... like valves
rich is sooty but its also cooler (and safe)
remember bogging is relative almost anything will bogg in 4th gear going 5 mph...... its only a 250- sometimes I "feel" like its bogging but then I remember I'm not on the 900rr.
