Default Replacing Fork Seals

Been looking at few posts, but haven't seen anybody with info as to how actually replace the seals. One of my fork legs is leaking, road or off road riding, to the point that it ends up dripping, off the fork on to the ground (or the front tire!!) after I've gone for a ride.

I tried the piece of plastic trick to remove any dirt that may be in there, no success.

Can anyone speak to the process of actually replacing the seals? I'd take my bike in, but I like to do maintenance myself, plus no place around has suggested anything less than a 3 week backup in the service dept. Add to it a suggested 3 hours @ $70/hr and I'm ready to give it a whirl myself.

Are there special tools needed, or any tricks to the process? Is it something that I can do myself? I have basic tools, access to the factor service manual, and am mechanically inclined, just have never done this before.

Thanks for any advice!!!

Check this link; http://www.dirtbikemagazine.com/detail.asp?id=76 It may be worth one more try for the quick fix.

Is it out of warranty? I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that would be covered. And if you didn't buy the extended warranty, sorry. I bought 4 extra years and have never regretted it.

Any special tools required are listed in the manual and complete instructions. I haven't replaced fork seals so I can't help you any further, good luck.

Cheers

Mine was like yours. It would drip down onto the disk and caliper. Before you rip the seals out, take a look at my post in this thread here -->

Thanks for the replies! I'll follow a few of the suggestions to see where I can end up at.

I called two dealers in Utah, both said that fork seals were NOT covered under warranty (I am within the1 year, barely!).

I don't really care if they are, I don't want to wait around for 3 weeks just to get this fixed. Rather learn something and do it myself.

Thanks for the words of wisdom....

Ross
