replacement stock sized dot tires
I have been looking for what to replace my tires with and I cannot seem to find much in stock sizes for the rear. I want to keep the stock size so as not to take away any power. Pirelli makes one but it is not dot approved. I want a nice aggressive tire from a reputable company, no cheng chin or trakmaster here. Only the best goes on my bike. Can anyone share experiences from being down this road? Remember, I want it to remain the stock size. I am seeing a size 110/100- how much larger is this from the 100/100? I do have an open mind but 120/100 is out as this is way too big imo for the little power the KLX makes and would rob what power I have increased.
Thanks

Unless you live in a Inspection state I wouldnt worry to much about if its DOT approved or not. If a non inspection state I'd get what I wanted. Also just because it's not a Dunlop or Metzler or some other Major brand doesnt Necessarily mean it's a Sub par tire. My 2 cents dude.....

Size wise they are measured about the same as a car tire. 100/100-18 is 100mm wide, the height is 100% of that per side + 18 inches so that should equate to (dividing 100 mm by 25.4mm/1inch) gives a 4 inch wide by 26 inch tall tire. Compare that to a 120/100-18 and you've got 4.7 inches wide by 27.5 inches tall. And even then you will have some variance due to the tread design, case in point K270 vs stock. Numerically the same size yet the 270 is a bit lower. The 110 you asked about would be 4.3 inches wide by 26.7 inches tall. But again it boils down to the tire in question and its tread pattern.

Hard to believe they get that kind of money for the stock tires. I got a whopping 1500 miles on the stock rear. Could have maybe pushed it a little further but didn't want to try. I just put on an IRC GP-1 4.6-18 rear that I got from americanmototire.com for $61.14 including the shipping.

the reason I want to keep dot is because they're rated for higher speeds than non dot tires. I once took my KLX to near 90 mph on a long straight just to see if it would pull redline in top gear. these tires are rated for speeds near that i think. so no one has really answered my question- any dot besides the crappy stock in 100/100? pirelli, bridgestone, michelin, etc. no dunlops please.

I like www.rockymountainatv.com for tires and misc parts, but I like the above web site for browsing the available selection.
