Default Removing Rear Fender Extension

I removed the rear fender extension on my 2007 klx250, and unplugged the electrical connection that powers the rear license plate light. Right after I did that, my headlight and rear running light stopped working. Turn signals and brake light works fine thought...could I have caused short or blown a fuse by removing that rear license plate illumination light?

Ya, I just cut the wire to the plate light, curled it up and left it between the fender and the subframe. All other lights work just fine. Just did it last weekend.

okay so knowing that removing the plate light couldn't have caused the headlight/brake light to go, what could I check next? fuses?

It sounds like a blown fuse. Good as place as any to start.

...might be a safety feature Kawasaki built in, to prevent you from riding at night without the rear beaver-tail...

+1 on checking the fuses.

I assume there is a positive and a ground. If you cut through both at the same time you would have definitely blown the fuse at that point. Glad you found the problem!

related topic, if you inadvertently get the high beam/ low beam switch held in the middle position it'll take that same fuse out. Both lights on at the same time draw too much power. Done it a couple times now and threw some spares in the tool kit (and installed a bigger fuse ) your call on that
