Hey JB-

Check out those pics on BikeBandit...Even the lenses look different, the one for the 300 looks lower and smaller.

Now I wonder if I'm looking at the right stuff...I thought so. lol.

Im telling you, its the same lense and same part number. I just went in the garage and looked at mine on the bench...its identical...the only difference is the KLX300 doesnt have that rubber piece on the bottom and the metal bracket isnt angled up like the KLX250S.

Go look at YOUR bike and then come back and look at the pic. Trust me they didnt make different lenses for the aussie version...the UK version...the Canada version and the US version...thats just not how mfg's stay in business and make money. There are several parts that fit the KLX300 and the KLX250S....rear sprockets...air filters..the list goes on etc etc etc. Take a chance...do the mods and let us know what works and doesnt work.

Even the lens is not the same on US models.

The 300R lens has the mounting bolts vertically, the 250S are horizontal.

Manufactures do it all the time, each country has its own set of hoops to jump through.The Austrailian 250S has a differnt muffler than theUS version as one example in addition to the tailight example.

Imagaine this as a possible scenerio...

The KLX 300 tail light is legal in Austrailia (where your are getting that pic from) & is cheaper than the tail light required in the US...so they use the KLX 300 one there. One of many possibilities. That is how they stay in business & make money.

Too much worry over the tail light and rear fender IMO! Performance mods and ride! That's where I am am headed.

this information about the taillight lenses being the same is inaccurate. the 300 lense is much smaller because it's not street legal for the USA. the 300 also just uses the rear light for enduro use, not for on-road after dark use or a brake light. we all know about the other stuff you list as being interchangeable, we're not idiots but we do know the rear lights aren't the same. maybe in Aus it's the case, but not over here.

Okay well I guess I was wrong, I still would like to know if the lower bolt pattern is the same because it sure looks like it would bolt up without any mods.

i think they're the same basic design, just that the dot legal lense is larger. they probably mount up the same however as both bikes use the same frame and essentially same rear fender almost.
