Default Rain riding - does it ruin the filter

I've read in the manual and service manual about "immediately" soaking and re-oiling the air filter on the klx250sf.?? I think that is garbage. I can't imagine a bike you can't ride in the rain. What is the deal ride and reoil or ride and...know that rain doesn't ruin my ds bike?

It's known in industry as "cover your ***".

Rain won't hurt your filter.
This might justify you changing it

the only problem I can see is if the filter is soaked with silt.. then you have to clean it out cuz when that puppy dries it will give your engine a good lung full of powder

I put 10,000 miles on my sf over the last year. Being in seattle 7,000 of those have been in the rain. Just make sure your filter is well oiled and that the filter box drain is emptied before riding. I have ridden in rain so bad that I had to slow down just to see. The bike will be fine. You on the other hand may be cold and wet... :-D

Thanks for the words -- I figured as much, but you know the shop manuals...sometimes they are dead on, other times, not so much. I put in the new KDX snorkel and it is bigger and shorter (so to speak) so I thought it might vacuum up a bunch more spray in the rain and splashin. I will keep it oiled and keep that drain bottle empty...

Cheers!
