The fan switch on my 2009 KLX250S is not working properly and a factory replacement is pricey! Does any one have the part number for a suitable replacement? I an not concerned about using the factory connectors. Any info would be appreciated.

IDRIDR Beat me to it, yeah what he said. in 15,000 miles,my fan only came on once and that was a 100 degree day in first gear on a single track trail going slow.

 

I don't have a answer for the OP but can add some info.
My klx turns the fan on @ 205 and off @ 196. Riding down the road it runs 153 all day long. Trails about 165 to 180. The only way I can cycle the fan is in neutral holding the rpms up. Other then that it's never on. This is with a big bore kit.

I wired in a switch, more for personal comfort and peace of mind than anything. My 2009 SF had the overheat light come on a couple times sitting in traffic jams during summer heat. Haven't got the light yet on my 2007 S, but decided not to wait until that happened before installing the switch. I mounted mine to the left side gas tank bolt using a reflector bracket. It sits flush with the fairings.

 

Sorry for the late reply, while riding a few weeks ago my high temperature light came on however the fan was not running, used a wire between the plug contacts to get the fan running, the over temp light went out soon after. Back to my original question, are any aftermarket replacements available.

 

Funny part... KLX300R and KLX650R off roaders... no fan. I did see there may have been fans on the Aussie 300 at one time.

Either way, I have never seen or heard of a manual bypass switch set up in the aftermarket. Probably because all you have to do is find which wire is the ground for the fan, then wire a switch in it. I know this because I had the fan on my 650 running at intervals for extended periods. Seemed I pinched the ground between the shroud panels and it finally wore through, contacting at times.

 

BMW uses a similar switch. Many Ktm guys get them as they are a lower temp. If you pull your switch out any good auto parts store should be able to match one up and tell you the On temp setting.

Hey guys,

I recently bought a KLX250 06 or 07. Made in Japan and the framenumber is weird and not recognized by Kawasaki. But that's a whole other story...

The previous owner bypassed the temp sensor switch and now when I turn on the ignition the fan starts spinning. When I turn off the ignition the fan stops. A straightforward bodge to prevent the bike from cooking, but far from ideal if you ask me.

For some reason both the radiators have a port where you can mount a temp sensor switch and both have one in them. (both destroyed though)
I live in Vietnam and labour is pretty cheap and I am busy, so I figured I'll let the local mechanic hook a new sensor switch up for me. Now he tells me he only wants to do it if I let them install two sensors.. Am I missing something here? That sounds like complete rubbish to me and a reason for them to make a bit more money of the westerner.

If you ask me one sensor is enough and when it measures the temp above a certain level it connects the power to the fan and it starts spinning until the temp drops again under a certain level..

Now I'm not the best with electrics so I could use some help with the wiring of this sensor.
Anyone got some advice for me?
