Third, the KLX250 is a very cheap bike to insure. The last reason, the bike becomes a beast after and almost double the HP.
It would be great if someone I knew had a KLX with the 351 kit to test ride. I'd like to keep the KLX for the very same reasons you mentioned above, but not willing to spend the money on a 351 and TM36 if the results aren't up to what I want. I'm just after some overtaking power from 110km/h.

I'll let you know after I'm done but I dint think that's going to be an issue. Remember what the intended purpose of the bike is. It's an enduro. I have a dedicated street bike for highway duty.

It may be a lot of things, but it's not all that light. 2010 husaberg fe390 Street legal

If I had it to do all over again...

I'd still do the KLX based on part availability alone and aftermarket parts available. The KLX platform has been around a long time.

Don't get me wrong the KLX is a good platform and the 351/TM36 version of it is very good at what it does, but it will never be a woods weapon.

Bluezr7, you have the beginnings of a KLX that'll pull a 15 tooth primary.. The power levels at 110 KPH and above will be enhanced with the DJ140/2N as well as the MCM.. At this point, you are still several HP and LB/FT shy of what your bike will produce..

Just pointing out that there is still "cheap and free" mods you need to do before passing judgement on your KLX..

Definitely not a woods weapons bike but it's a compromise bike between street and off road leaning towards off road. For me I very much enjoy riding to work and if I want too on the way home I can jump onto a bush path and explore.

Yup, that's true, and the good trails are miles from here. So, the KLX makes getting there pretty trouble free. On the other hand I ride with guys that have lighter bikes and it makes a huge diffrence in the woods.

I'm not understanding how a 351 plays into engine rpm at 70MPH with stock gearing.

If your gearing is 14/42 and you had 1 HP your rpm in 6th gear would be the same at 70mph. If you have the same gearing with 2,000 HP your RPM would be the same.

The only thing you can do is gear up, the 351 would allow you to pull a taller gearing and lower your RPM that way.

I always had this argument with guys about minibikes. a bike with 12/60 gearing with 3.5HP or 8HP ect is always going to have the same top speed if your RPMs are limited to 3600(as almost all horizontal shaft engines are from the factory)

Have you ever hit redline on the KLX? I don't think so, even with a 351.
It is all about available torque at each speed. To obtain the maximum speed possible, you need to know what that rpm the engine develops it's maximum torque & HP. Your gearing would then need to be setup so that the engine is between those 2 rpm's as you approach your maximum speed. And it is not with a 15CSS, IMO.

Comparing it to a scooter is ridiculous.
