Default Quarter turn throttle

Several people have mentioned going to a quarter turn throttle. I've looked at the throttle on my 2006 and if appears to have very close to being a quarter throw. What am I missing?

Not even close. Maybe if you make a mark on it and go from fully closed to WOT. No way the OEM carple tunnel throttle (CPT), is anywhere close to 1/4 turn.

tremor38,
Must be some variability in the throttle linkage used on these bikes. . . I just checked my '06 KLX stock throttle linkage and found that MINE turns 1/5 of a turn! Have you actually checked yours?

I marked mine at the 3 oclock position closed. At wide open is at 12 oclock.

horizonod,
3/4 of a turn. . . . I guess that is a carpal tunnel- inducing throttle. I don't know how anyone could ride properly, like that! Unbelieveable. . . .

Hey. . . is it possible that someone has incorrectly assembled the throttle linkage. . . maybe after a handlebar swap, etc.?

My throttle may be different than yours. I checked mine looking dead on the end of the throttle from the right side of the bike (facing forward) the side the throttle is on. From 3 oclock to 12 oclock COULD be 3/4 turn accept on my bike the throttle turns toward me so 3 oclock to 12 oclock makes it a quarter turn give or take a minute or two..

horizonod,
Well duh. . . . don't know what I was thinking except that since you used "clock" positions, I automatically went clockwise (in my head) 3 o'clock to 12 o'clock is 3/4 of a turn. Yes, yes my throttle (and everyone's) turns counter clockwise (as viewed from the bar end). Mine turns a little less than 1/4 turn. . . say 1/5 of a turn.
So I wonder what tremor38 is referring to. . . . .
Anyway. . . if you do much off-roading, you wouldn't really want a super-sensitive throttle (especially in 1st gear, even 2nd gear on MY bike (geared very low!)

07 KLX250H7 AUS. My stock throttle turns 90 degrees (1/4 turn) only!

Since my bike is in storage right now, I'll take everyone's word on it.

However far it actually turns in reference to a complete circle, it's still a carpal tunnel throttle, IMHO.

Try the Motion Pro Vortex or most any serious MX throttle and you will see a big difference. The spec to look for is how many degrees you have to move the throttle tube to get 1mm of cable travel, which is the 'rate' (lower is better). Let's say one throttle has to move 3 degress to get 1mm of cable movement vs one that requires only 2 degress to get the same thing. It's easier to distinguish which one is faster.

Also, different carbs -say a pumper vs the CVK- take different amounts of cable travel to open the slide or butterfly all the way, so the same throttle could be 1/4 turn on one carb while it might require more or less travel on a different carb.

Anyway, you guys are probably right on the 1/4 turn with stock throttle and CVK, but that still feels like a hand winch to me.
