I ride with a guy that has a klr250, its an ok, bike, i consider it more of a road bike, to me the klx is a dirt bike with lights, i can go anywhere on the klx that a dirt bike can go. Yesterday i biffed a hill climb, was steeper than i thought, and i ended up dragging the KLX down the hill on its side before i could stand her back up... got her to the bottom and nothing broke or bend, fired up after i wiped the blood off of me and caught my breath.

Default Thanks for the responses!!!

Great forum & great responses!!

I stopped tonight and checked out the 2004 KLR250 with 1400 miles for $2100. Nice looking bike but I would agree that it seemed like more of a road bike.

I may also be passing on the 2007 KLX250S.

I got a quote on a new 2009 KLX250S for $4,286.00 out the door including tax. Bike is green in color.

This is more than I wanted to spend on my first bike but I think that the price is quite good.

Any thoughts on the pricing?

Are 2010 models coming out soon?

Thanks

2010 will be the same as 09 +/- FI.

Go for the 09. Thats a good price and you can have it now.The 2010 won't be priced that low and if the US version has FI it will most likely cost even more. Plus the CV (and any carb) is easier and cheaper to mod and work on. I've got an 09 and it's a really fun little bike. For the $786.00 difference you get a 2 year newer bike with a warranty.

If you plan on actually taking the bike off-road and riding it like it was meant to be ridden - I would keep looking for a used one. Brand new is a waste of $$$ unless you plan on keeping it on the street and never abusing it.

The year warranty that comes with new bikes - it's new.. You probably won't even use the warranty! I've had my 07 going on two years now, even with a 351 kit I've never had anything break on it that a warranty would have covered.

Not to mention - the money you'll save buying used you can put right into the bike. From the factory the bike feels like a moped. If you spend $4500 on a new one, you have a $4500 moped. If you spend $3k on a used one, you have $1,500 to turn it into the proper bike that it should be

I dunno.. That's just my opinion.

Hi guys,

Reading stuff like that really makes me wonder about my move (just ordered a brand new 09' and started looking for future mods). But then again, depending on your location, used bikes aren't always so easy to come by.

Also in my case, my brother-in-law has a dealership so he took my 4-wheeler in exchange and he's not taking any commission (so he says ) wich makes it a bit easier on the wallet. Overall it cost me 1K to get the bike.

But you really have put doubt in my mind regarding my purchase so it's very valuable info for future buyers.

I have an 09 that i got for $4625 a year ago. Since then I've put about another $1500+ into the bike to make it a better trail machine.
exhaust, header, big bore kit, gaurds, tires, sprockets + chain, carb jetting....
In retrospect, alot of money could have been saved had i bought a used bike, but I like my 09 and don't regret purchasing it.
