Default Playing on the power lines

I have found I really enjoy riding the power lines here. I am in an urban area here, with a lack of open space to ride in. There are land tracts that are not developed, but most are privately owned and fenced and posted. So I have checked with one of my buddies that works for the power company, and he said when company guys see someone on a bike, they just wave. They don’t care if people ride the trails, of course the higher ups might not agree, but there not out there, so basically it is ok to ride there, but no one gives you permission, just in case you’re a lawyer, or your brother is
So I started looking at the satellite maps and found an area where the powerlines run thru a newer office park development

I knew there was good riding in the area, but did not know how extensive the local trail system was.
So I woke up early Sunday morning, and wondered what the hell I was doing when I stuck my head outside and saw the frosty windows and the thermometer at 29 degrees. Oh-well, guess its time to find out how good the riding gear is on a cold but sunny day.
Off I went, trying to find my way along the trails. I didn’t know there was a new road through the office park, but took a ride to see what was there.

Yup, same old crap as the last place, like I care, I am looking for some fun

I know whats down there. Not much actually, just the main road into the office park, might as well look the other way

OK, a “walkers” path. No sign that says keep out, so I’m going in
Oh for cryin out loud, a bench? For what? I don’t need a break yet?

I see, in case the office girls need a break after a game of volleyball??? Um-OK

Yea Right, screw this, time to turn around, see if I can get onto the trail network

Now this looks promising, I can see the power lines out there

I know its gonna be fun !!

Just what the doctor ordered.
MMM, maybe not , I don’t think I like the looks of that puddle.

That aint just some big ole’ puddle, that’s a dam swamp.

Color me outta there, Im’a lookin for the ***** route !!

Leads me to this

Which gets me to where I wanna be

Of course, I find there are a lot of off line trails around here, I love poking around on them

They bring me back out to the main line, and I am off to see whats over the next hill

Just another big old puddle, looks deep, maybe I will stay away from that one also.

Making good progress now. The ride is slow and uneventful, a welcome ride that’s good for the brain.

Nice pics, 42. Your "puddle" looks like a bike swallowing abyss.

This guy IS having fun today

And he still has this in front of him

And even this didn’t scare him away ( not like there was anywhere else to go )

I jumped off, scooped it out, it don’t look to deep

Nice place for a peaceful rest stop, until I heard the roar

Some Jeep guy figured he would go see if he could get stuck

I don’t like pushing. See-ya

I guess I know who was here. MORONS

People that leave sh*t like that out here really **** me off. A$$heads
OK, what way do we go now?

Yea, I am heading to the right, go up the hill. Down looks like fun, but I know that its tough to go around those big substations, so we will save that side for another trip

The other way looks like a lot more fun

Some of the hills out here are a real sonofabitch, but it sure feels like a good accomplishment after you ride them.

Here is something else that really pisses me off

Its clearly marked on maps, and the GPS as a road, right
But some a$$head decides it MY land, and I don’t want anyone on MY land, cause if there is someone on MY land, I might not have MY land available to be MY land.

Off the soap box, time to see whats over that next hill

Fu^k that, I don’t wanna know what lives in that biga$$ nest, keep it movin mista.

Down at the bottom of a gnarly hill, I pause to take a look at what I was just on, dam, it looks like a wuss hill from here, but Im’a thinkin it wasn’t.

Near the bottom of the hill I see a trail off to the right, looks perfect to go see whats in there

Perfect, a few luscious single track trails into the woods, just what I needed to finish off the ride

Gots to be careful when your in the woods and there are leaves carpeting the ground, you do not have any idea whats under them, I found out there was mud, not a lot, but enough to keep me occupied and paying attention to where the trail is. Its delicious. I love trying to figure out where the trail leads, you cant see any tracks from previous riders, just leaves covering the ground. Its so much fun, you have to ride slow enough to stay on track, but fast enough to avoid the woods rats. ( I have seen more deer in the local woods than ever before)

After kicking around the single track for an hour, it got difficult to stay out of peoples back yards. I knew I had to get out of there, and I got lucky and found a gate that lead out, all of a sudden its back to reality, and back to spend the rest of the day with the dogs, who always wait patiently for me when I run off on the KLX.

40, Nice report and pix. Growing up in central Maryland our house backed up to a powerline right of way. Learned to ride there, first on a minibike and then on to a "real" bike - if you could call a '72 Yammi DT-100 a real bike. The powerline and connecting trails through the woods were a great place to learn and provided all the challenges a kid could want. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Good to know there are still a few fun places to ride in the NE. But 29 degrees? Brrrrr. Been down here too long. Last week we had a -ahem- cold spell. Temps in the low 70's.
Poifect! Rode three days in row in long pants, it was wonderful. The next 6 months are all gravy as far as riding conditions go. Now to find some powerline right of ways....

I've been on every trail you took a pic on a hundred times. we used to ride out of a friends house that was maybe 5 mins from the sub station that was at the bottom of that hill. Be careful if you go all the way over towards Holliston sand and gravel. they'll take your bike if they catch you. you can get past there and go all the way out behind wrights to ocean state power but it's getting hard to be out there. in that water pic that is 17 from the bottom there is a tire on the far right about a foot from waters egde. hit that or go left of it and your swimming.
Don't go out into crytal lake either unless your flying and don't stop for anyone.

from ocean state power to rte. 44 and back is easily 60 miles. Buck hill is real good too but don't go anywhere near george washington. it's patrolled and you'll definately get pinched out there. again don't stop for anyone. if you see someone turn tail and run the other direction. it's better to be safe than sorry. m2c

Thanks for sharing 40. Checked it out on GoogleEarth. Have you ridden Marther's Vineyard? It's about 100km south east of you. If so, is it worth a trip?

I can't speak for forty but from my perspective it's not worth the trouble. I was over there last year for a day and that was too much. It's worse that the Cape and the Cape is a nightmare. The ferry ride was good though.
