Picked up the first Iowa '09 today with pics
sorry, I fixed it. I just want to get my thoughts out so fast so as to not forget anything I just ramble. read it, I think you'll find there's good information in there.
Hey Travis, sorry about the late congrats man, I was busy painting all day yesterday, dining room and front room ceiling, dining room walls, front room walls, today we got the whole place back together.Last week was the new laminate floor.....Whew!!
Anyway, I really like the look of the bike, but in your last picture of the bike by the garage, look at that fender line, man that thing would look sweet without a brake light and the plate holder.
Again, I'm really happy for ya man, I know you have been all over the place in the last couple of years, KLX then the 400 and now another KLX but that's OK, sounds like you are happy with your choice and that is all that really counts. Peace man.[sm=icon_rock.gif]

bottom line, I like it more and more each day and glad I got the red. when it warms up, I will do the 13-toother for sure. A couple things I should mention for anyone who cares, is this bike has a low fuel level warning indicator on the odometer I just read about in the manual. Also, since no one noticed in the pics, the horn isn't where it is on the '06 and '07's. Look close, it is now lower on the frame which could be bad in extreme off-road situations or water. I'm sure someone will relocate it. I really could care as I don't plan on bunnyhopping any logs on this bike. oh and btw, it is still 14/42 gearing.
ps. congrats on getting the painting done. I've done a little painting myself in the last 6 years. worst job to start, but best feeling in the world when you're all done. I'm very **** about my taping so I set myself up for torture. later [sm=smiley20.gif]
Nice bike!
Although "Kawasaki Red" doesn't have the same ring to it.
No hand guards on the '09?
And of course that rear fender.
All I can think about is hitting one of those "mud holes" we ride inand it's gonna scoop through it.

Dunlop D605. same size as your bike.
again, for anyone who cares-
Overall drive ratio for '09- 8.000 (top gear)
Primary reduction ratio- 2.800 (84/30)
Fuel capacity- 2.04 gals.
Gear ratios- 1st: 3.000 (30/10) 2nd: 2.000 (30/15) 3rd: 1.500 (27/18) 4th: 1.250 (25/20) 5th:1.050 (21/20) 6th: 0.952 (20/21)
Castor: 26.5
Ignition timing: 10 degrees BTDC @1300 r/min~ 25 degrees BTDC @5000 r/min
I don't know if any of these specs have changed since the '06 bike but I'm sure someone will check. I know the fuel capacity is different from 1.9 to 2.04; and gear ratios too, but not sure how much. Taken right from the owners manual.

Congrats on the bike Iowa. I know what you mean about stuff not looking as good in pics as in person. In a month or so I'll go check them out in person at the dealer.
I wonder if the shift star for the 09 will fit the 06/07 and have the proper neutral light. Any chance you want to take yours out and take a pic of it so we can compare?
Not to highjack the thread heres the link to stuff done to my bike for those who asked. https://www.kawasakiforums.com/m_274640/tm.htm
gears 1-5 are identical. Only 6th was changed (moved to be more like 5th) & I believe only by one tooth in the tranny (maybe one tooth per shaft). I have compared all the internal tranny gear ratios.
