I rubbed chalk on the end of the pin and then placed it where I wanted it to go. After pushing the pin in it left a mark where to drill my hole. I wanted it as tight as possible. It took all of 2-minutes to do.

I have a couple locks too trying to decide where to mount mine out of the way
