Over-bore and warranty?
Does anyone know how the overbore kits affect your warranty? I was thinking about the 300 as I need more topend for my style of riding. I know nothing of how this all works but since the 300appears to bejust swapping out factory parts it seems like if I had the stealer do it (yikes) it wouldn't void the warranty? How much more power to you get out of the 300?
Once the motor is modified, the warranty certainly goes away. Kawasaki, as with any manufacturer, is only responsible forit's products in stock form as deliveredfrom the dealer, and will not cover so called abusive useage.
My dealer told me thatcrashing my KLXs on a race track could void the warranty.
Fortunately, this model is quite bulletproof even with the engine mods mentioned in this forum.
If it survives the breakin period, it should go for at least 15K plus miles even with a big bore kit. Basic stuff like changing oil 2K miles, and providing a clean air filter should assure long service.

Frank is correct however if you go with the OEM Kawasaki 300cc parts and you have problems with the motor later it is doubtful that the dealership service department would even pick up on the fact that you made the mods provided the work was done competently, the catch would be that; you would get a 250cc mill back if the jug and piston were damaged.
If you have worries then you could (in many cases) reinstall the stock parts before taking the bike back to the dealer for repairs.

I know, I know...hind sight is 20/20. If I only knew I would have taken the warranty money and used it for a big-bore. I have the world's worst luck so I usually buy the warranty to void murphy's law.
I do like the idea about doing the 300 and the dealer never noticing? Coud I do that myself?

Yeah, my local dealer offered to do the 300cc upgrade for $800 or so (I don't recall the exact amount) but they did say that it would be covered under the Kawasaki Good Times Warranty.
What dealer's are you guys using?I talked to Carl's Cycles here in Boise (a huge dealer) and they knew nothing about the upgrade for the klx. They have overbore kits for the drz and other models....their warranty guy said even if they do it it would void the warranty on the top-end. If a dealer would do it for $800 bucks I would get it done next week (just don't tell my wife)!
KLXer he wants to keep his warranty
fireroad I may be wrong however I think the "kit" was only available in Australia. I got my kit free when I bought my KLX in Jan 06 as part pf a promotion and supplied the part numbers to this forum. From memory (it was almost 2 years ago) in the states you just buy the "kit" as seperate parts using the part numbers in the commonpartnumbers thread at the top of the KLX250s forum. https://www.kawasakiforums.com/m_343..._2/key_/tm.htm
