They're not much in the way of weight, maybe a few ounces each. Must not be very effective either, since they're gone, and I haven't had any new vibrations mysteriously appear...

Suppose a little weight out there on the ends helps to absorb/dampen some of the vibration. I noticed my Tusk bars, which are lighter, have a little more vibration than the stock bars. One member here swears by these Vibranator.com

Don't waste too much time messing with the factory bars by removing the slugs or whatever since unless you ride like "whispering eyes" you'll be bending the crap out of the oem bars in no time. Not only are they weak, thin, mild steel but they have holes drilled into them to locate the controls that provide weak points for bending over.

The whispering eye comment was not aimed at anyone. Just saying that if you rode like one you would not need real hand guards. It depends on your needs , ultimate protection or sturdy wind deflectors. Moose makes some nice roost deflectors that I mounted on my full hand guards. TIP - urbandictionary.com is a great reference for slang.
