Default only one throttle cable?

I'm installing a complete throttle assembly and wondering why I only had one cable, and new one has two. Is the return not necessary? I have the TM33 Mikuni Pumper. Thanks... t

Old throttle with slot for second cable... the return?

New throttle, with two cables... open and return?

Stock is 2 cables, pull and push (return).
My TM36-68 is set for only one cable (pull). I think that was because my Acerbis tank interferes with the return part and I had to remove the return holder from the carb.
One should be good. There's speculation the return cable is a lawyer thing because older carbs/throttles use only one cable.

Thanks, I'm gonna install the new like the old, and see what it's like. Biggest hassle now is trimming the throttle tube for the handguard mount... the grip has been glued to the new (used) one.
I hate buying new stuff and then have to immediately start hacking away at it.

I've been running the single cable on my TM36-68 for years on my 2006. Just last fall I finally replaced the OEM original cable and housing with a Motion Pro single cable and complete throttle tube and housing. My '06 throttle housing had no other controls built in like some bikes have, so it was easy to replace.

I've been owning, riding, and racing dirt bikes since the early 70's...around 17 or 18 I believe...and I think a KLR600 was the first dirt or dual sport bike I owned that had dual cables. This has been an issue brought about by extreme liability concerns rather than by any actual alarming number of safety issues with single cable setups. If lawyers were to be in charge of how we hold up our pants, we'd all be required to wear belts and suspenders simultaneously.

Well it's in, and in a test start up, working great... a huge improvement, which is no surprise. The old one had a cracked and bent cable housing and the throttle tube's cable guides looked like someone took a rat tail file to them... Test ride in the am. Took a minute to get the right free play in the throttle handle/tube, but it feels smooth and way more finely nuanced at low rpm adjustments. I had been considering a Throttle Tamer, but this feels promising, as is.
