But that photo looks like it shows a new-body rear-end...

From what I can find, it fits 1998 up to 07 for the black steel rack, and up to 09 for the silver aluminum Rally rack. I could be wrong, my japanese is a little rusty. Dean, maybe you can help find out up there?

The aluminum rack lists PN RY59104 for KLX250 though 2007 while it lists a different PN RY591127 for the 2008 Japanese model which is the same as the 2009 stateside frame. I'd say it's a safe bet to fit the 09.

The steel rack only lists one PN for the KLX, so I'm assuming it won't work on the 09 without modification.

I went back and read reviews on the aluminum rack. As far as the first impressions went, a lot of people prattled-on about how good it looked and how light it was (58% lighter than a comparable steel rack), but anyone who came back after about 6 months of carrying anything were not impressed. They said it broke in a fashon that looked like somebody took a cutter of some sort to the metal.

It's only rated at 2kg (4.4lbs).

Default Another option for the 2009 KLX250

http://www.ms-sailing-store.com/Products.139.aspx

It says:
スチールパイプ製 (steel pipe)
黒色塗装仕上げ (Black Powder Coated)
ツールボックス付属 (Tool box can stay mounted)
積載重量3kgまで (Max 3Kg)

It is also on the Kawasaki Japan site:
http://www.kawasaki-motors.com/model/klx250/parts.jsp

The Kawasaki Japan site says that it can not be used to mount a top-box.

It is Kawasaki Japan Part # J2000-0140

This is for the 2008 and on KLX/D-Tracker and looks best so far for fitting and being sort-of strong (compared to the aluminum one!)

Thanks for the help with this Dean. Good find, 2xadv. That one is quite a bit smaller, but it does fit the 09, and it goes for around $100, as you can see on the Kawi page, Yen10,500

Well I picked-up a 2009 KLX250S rack (as posted above) from Kawasaki last week while I was on a Business trip to Japan. Mounted it today with the stock tool bag because the tool bag that came with the rack was smaller to fit between the rack and the back of the seat. It looks a little crammed-in there, but I like the bigger bag.

If someone knew someone who could fab this up and then sell them, I could loan this one out for a week.
(The Turbo City one is too much for daily use!)

Hi guys...first post here. I'm happy to announce I have a solution to all who need a rack for their 08-09 KLX250S/SF's. I have been fabricating dual sport racks for over a year for various models and realized the aftermarket world wouldn't jump to make a rack for the new little bike so I thought I would. I just finished the prototype which will look identical to the production run. Mind you, they will be powder-coated in a durable black textured finish. The rack is very strong yet basic, and very affordable ($79). It is made mainly from mild steel with DOM mounts. All hardware will be provided. Sorry the pics are not of high resolution. I took them with my phone...

The racks will be available in 10-12 days...They will be for sale on Ebay. The rack also serves as a grab handle or tow bar and will accommodate the stock tool bag. Thanks!
