Default Newby Needs Help

Hi all - Just got a 2006 KLX250 with 122 miles for $2,900 - thought it was a pretty good deal.
It's been a while (years) since my last dirt ride, but I'm REALLY looking forward to it.

Anyway - I need your tips on how to perform the following mods on the 06-07 KLX250:

1) removal of smog/emissions
2) breather tube relocation
3) Any other mods I can make (before re-jetting and Muzzy-fying) to put a little kick into the bike.

Please redirect if there are already posts on these processes and THANKS!

I live in upstate NY (near Saratoga). My brother in-law is a bike mechanic, but I want to do everthing myself. That way I can understand things and learn a little in the process. To me the journey is more important than the destination. Thanks.

Welcome to the forums, you can install the 13 front and 45 rear sprockets with a new chain to give you some low end torque.

Pretty much everything you are looking for is a post at the "top". Click on the one that says "mod day".

Thanks guys - all great stuff and really appreciated. Deej I have the 514XK-13 on order from Sprocket Specialists. Can you tell me what mods you've made to your sweet ride? [8D]

Well I haven't done as much as a lot of guys on here, but what I have done (or rather paid my mechanic to do) I am very happy with. Let's see:

Got rid of the stock turns and installed flush on the back
Acerbis hand guards with built in turns
Folding mirrors
Pelican case
bar clock
13-45 sprockets
Full Muzzy
Air box lid off
Jetting 132 and 40
Front fender extensions (which everyone seems to hate but I love them)
12 V power plug
Chrome heat shield (bling)
Acerbis tail light mod
Trick Flasher
