New Skid Plate from Utah Sport Cycle
Yea I hear ya, I was so excited that when I received mine the power was out for a couple of days and I installed it using flashlights in the garage, now how desperate was that?
Besides no power = no TV which = board games, so I had to find something to do real quick, desperate times call for desperate measures.

I received mine last week but haven't had a chance to install it. But I had the MSR skid plate on before so it's not like I've been without protection. I got the USC plate because of the better design as it offers some protection for the coolant hoses and pump not to mention that I generally make a point of supporting vendors who support the products I care about.
I bought the "extra coverage" version.

KLX250S Skidplate (p/n 266)
Price: $80.95
I think shipping was about 11 bucks or so (at least from UT to NC). For those of us that got the discount, the discount and shipping pretty much were a wash.
The plate uses 4 mount stock mount points on the bike plus 2 additional brackets supplied with the plate. Those of us that have it are obviously biased, but I for one think it is an awesome plate. I would have gladly paid full price (but I'm glad that I did not have to
).In case you haven't seen on a few other threads about skid plates, you may be interested to note that several of the other plates out there under various names (Moose, MSR and ThumperTalk) are an older design made by USC.
Good luck in your decision.
Chris
Mark,
I recommend that you call USC and talk to Mike Gibbs. I imagine you can find out from him what a minimum number of people would be to get a discount. I seem to recall that we were shooting for about 10 or 15 people, but he may have lowered his usual target since it was a brand spanking new plate.
Mike is very helpful.
Good luck,
Chris

I just traded emails with Mike @ USC. I have had a couple of requests from folks that weren't on the original group buy list that wanted to use the discount code. While I figured that USC would probably welcome the extra sales, I was not sure if they wanted to limit access to that code for any reason. Well I asked Mike if I could hand the cost out to other forum members, and as expected, he was more than happy to oblige. To that end, I will just post it here:
The code is 852147. You basically just navigate the site as normal and place the plate (p/n 266) into your shopping cart. As soon as you proceed to checkout, you enter the code and hit "add". The 15% discount is calculated automatically.
Mike is setting the code to expire at the end of this week. Anyone wishing to take advantage of the 15% off group buy discount needs to order their plate by then. FYI, according to Mike's email this morning, the plates should begin shipping tomorrow (11/7/06).
