Perrsonally I waited till I surpassed the 600 mile mark. I have just shy of 800 and will have my carb parts and snorkel next Wed. I figured it'd be best to wait till the published break in period was over before doing anything to it just to help my case should I ever need to use the 2 yr extended warranty.
