I think about 80% of KLX owners never followed that break in method. Now its too late for you, but here is an interesting read. I found it before I rode my brand new bike 3 years ago, and I have 10,500 miles on mine, so at the very least it didn't hurt it, and hopefully it really set the rings for optimum power.

Yea, I read that before I bought my bike. Wasn't too sure of it though. I kept mine under 4000 rpm for about 150 miles and then went to the dealership and asked them to ride it to see what they thought and they agreed 6000 was more realistic. I've kept it under 6000 so far, 59 mph @ 6000rpms in 6th gear for me(no wind). Looking forward to that 1000 mile mark so I can let her breathe. You can tell she wants it!

It's more important that you vary the rpm's and don't chug the motor. Excelerate hard thru the gears then decelerate using the motor to slow down. That will seat both rings.

Do that for about 60 miles, in two sessions, and then let her breathe! lcpl speaks the truth.
