My new toy
Hi to all you fellow KLX people. Picked her up today. A KLX250R. (I'm sure it's identical to your 250S)
I have been reading all the fantastic posts here and it tipped me over to the green side. After much research I nearly bought a DRZ250. I have ordered the 300cc kit, it will be installed when it goes in for it's first service, and I am very keen to perform the mods talked about on in this forum. I'm thinking, along with the great free mods, a big gun exhaust, IMS tank, lower gearing and a jet kit. These parts seem more available and a lot cheaper in the US.
Can anyone recommend some realiable on line stores? Maybe a 1 stop shop?
Thanks

for the big gun EvoX full system, check out motorcycleparts.biz- they have it for $390 and are quick. for the jets and needle, get the kawi oem parts. there is a sticky thread at the top that has all the part #'s. ronayers.com has these parts and are the cheapest online. alot of guys are using 128 main and the N1TC adjustable needle in the 2nd position. you'll need the collar and the circlip for the needle and those part #'s are also provided in the aforementioned sticky thread. denniskirk has the sprocket, where i got mine anyways. you can just look for a sprocket for a honda XL650S as I believe this is the same sprocket- fyi the KLX300 front sprocket WILL NOT FIT. not sure about the tank as i like the oem tank. imo, the larger tanks except the ones that use the stock shrouds look tacky. but the latter ones are either white or clear and really stand out and look gaudy too. not sure if a KLX 300 tank is any larger, but it is black and plastic, or maybe a KDX 200 or 220 tank is larger im not sure. good luck. that 300 kit is really gonna help out, then the pipe and carb mods will really bring on the power.
G'day and welcome Neil from the east coast [8D], can I suggest you have a look at Staintune before you buy a pipe. They are aussie made, absolute top quality and never need packing. Oh yeah they have the best fit and finish.

Thanks for the welcomes.
I did checkout the Staintune. It looked too big and shiney. I can't see it lasting long. I mean, I'm sure it is a tough unit but it looks very likely to get badly scratched and dented.
The other thing is, I don't hear too much about there performance.
Not that I'm expecting anything too amasing.
The big gun gets heaps of praise from people who have them.
Heh MaverickAus, do you know if the Big Gun for the KLX is sold in Australia?
On the distributors web page it's not listed.
Same for the IMS tank.
Not to mention price. Big Gun can be had for arounf $400 US. Thats around $520 Aus.
The IMS tank is around $225 US or $300 Aus.
My local guy told me a large tank would set me back around $800. (I think thats for the Acerbis).
Even taking into account shipping I'll get everything for around $1000 Aus.
I have got too be saving a grand?
Is it that bad on the East Coast? Maybe we are getting ripped off in the West?
Any aussies out there got any suggestions or contacts then let me know.
I'm happy to keep my money here in Australia but not at any price.
Cheers
