RE: my new bike
I am sorry But Why in the hell would you compare a 400cc bike with a 250cc bike. A 400cc bike SHOULD have more power. I feel to have an honest comparisons the competition should be between the KLX250S and the DR200 these are much closer in displacement and would probable be classed together in a mag shootout.IMO. IowaGuy for an honest comparison you should compare your 400cc with the new 2008 KLX450 these bikes are close in Displacement!!!!

RE: my new bike
I wouldn't be too quick to jump on the DRZ bandwagon. I owned an '05 DRZ400S and while it was great on the street, it was not a good dirt bike. It was about 2 inches too tall, and while it made good power, the bike was just too heavy, and the suspension was way too soft, especially the front with non-inverted forks. I had a set of dirt tires and street tires for it, but was too lazy to keep swapping them all the time. Just knowing I needed to swap them out was enough to keep me from going dirt riding.
Eventually I sold it and now I have a CRF230 which is I'm sure pretty comparable to the KLX250s. Seeing I'm not able to license the 230, the KLX250s would be a good upgrade. Enduro's are really tricky to get just right because they are always a compromise. Everyone has different uses, whether it's 80% street, 20% dirt, or whether you want to take it on an mx track, or if you're riding on dirt roads, or tight woods. There are many options available, and you can spend a lot of money, or a little money, or you can enjoy the bike you have go riding.

RE: my new bike
Fortunately, I aquired a new 2006 250S for $3999.00 OTD....so I could spend some bucks upgrading, and still be where most OTD prices are. The stock bike suffers as we all know, so I ordered the Muzzy slipon and picked up a 300R headpipe off Ebay, got the jets that I needed (saved $ VS the "kit") changed to a 48 tooth sprocket...and the bike is now much better than stock. It'll keep up with my used 300R's now, and for the time being, and that's all I ask of it. I may go with a pumper carb and a 331 kit later on, but I'm pretty happy with where it is now.
My point was/is...why should I buy a DRZ SM that I'd have to spend $1200 on wheels and tires for, to get the offroad abilities that I have now, with more power than I need/want?
I could understand the "buy at DRZ" advice if it were placed in the correct forum or topic, to be taken with other buying advice related to specific needs, but not here, and not as a bash to the KLX.
The "My new bike" topic turned into the " You're crap if you don't sell your KLX and buy a DRZ" all over this forum in a manner that tries to degrade the KLX and that's not fair to the KLX.
I believe that "IG" knows his chit, and the KLX just didn't do it for him...but other KLX ownersshould be their ownjudge. I'm happy with mine.
