my new bike
Okay, since some of you are so interested in researching iowaguy on other forums and this may not be a surprise to a lot of you, I just want to show you the bike itself. I bought a 2006 DRZ400SM yesterday. It is a brand new holdover I got for $5700otd.
Anyways, I am quite happy with this bike. It has gobs of power and torque as some of you have already read how I talk about that on other forums. It will do power wheelies in 1st and 2nd and probably 3rd if I would try. The fit and finish of the Suzuki, imo, is much better than that of the KLX I had. Just looking at the engine and the welds show more craftsmanship andbetter engineeringas I see it anyways. The suspension is much improved as well. Obviously it should be too since the fork is lifted right off the RM250, the rear too and it also is fully adjustable for high and low speed. I can't say enough about this bike- it is absolutely the funnest bike I have ever ridden. After I rode a 2005 Saturday I knew I had to have one. It is so powerful and torquey. It is not as powerful as a 450, as it lacks about 10 horse from the big four's current hardcore enduros according to dirt rider magazine in stock trim (right at 35 horse stock),but it is a happy medium between the KLX and a hardcore 450. One of the things I really like is how colorful the bike is. There are some other cool things too like a forged piston and a linkless o-ring chain and the aluminum excel rims and killer brakes and digital speedo. I plan on eventually buying some black dirt wheels and knobbies for off-road use. But right now, it's too dang pretty to take off-road. Honestly I do not see myself piping it as I like how quiet it is but it still sounds good when it is revved.
As someone previously pointed out, I once rode a DRZ400 full dirt bike a few years ago and as I said in my own words, I could not get it to wheelie and thought it felt heavy and underpowered. Well, that is not the case here. Maybe the one I rode was underpowered or had poor traction but mine runs like a scalded ape. Well, that's it. No Husky and no WR. But a true dual-purpose. One that can serve as sportbike with a dirt bike personna or one that can be a full off-road machine with different wheels. One warning- do not ride one if you do not want to buy one. Because one ride and you will be hooked. The SM thing is true- they really are exciting. Of course, if it didn't have the power I'm sure it wouldn't be as much fun.

Nice looking bike and I guess that is an OK deal concidering the MSRP is $6199............My buddy got the black model for $5400+changeOTDand that included a helmet and a nice YELLOW jersey for me. This deal was most likley due to the last day of the month and the salesman being an old highschool bud. He said the black is impossible to get but nobody likes it...I think it looks nice as Sh*T!!!!!

Well I can see two immediate changes, dirt tires and the plate holder. And we thought the KLX plate holder hung down low. Man that's ridiculous. Why do bike makers put that there? Oh well, nice bike, hope you are really happy with it. Later.

yeah, I have plans on replacing the plate holder with a thing called "the edge". it is made for this bike and has a taillight with a plate light and a place to mount the plate.
right now I am looking into a second set of wheels/tires. don't know if i want a oem set or build a set of pro wheels or excels with nice black hubs and rims both.

Nice bike, congrats - gotta love the black excel rims. Check out Woody's Wheel Works out of Colorado. I'm having a rear wheel built for my KTM by them. I've heard nothing but positive about their work. http://www.woodyswheelworks.com/

Congrats, The Suzuki was my second choice when I was looking for a Bike, Not the Supermoto as I think they are wierd looking, a Dual-Purpose with Street bike tires?? Makes no sense to me! Good luck with your new toy!!
