With regard to the fit, finish, performance, ride, handling, etc; I hate to tell you this partner, but you are paying for a name, a legend or whatever else you might to call it.

Take a stock H-D twin cam and any equal displacement metric cruisers and the H-D will finish second. They all make more power, ride better and with the proper accessories can look as good.

Many times I've had folks tell me, "Nice Harley" when I was out riding my Vulcan! It sounded like one, ran better than most of the ones I've left sitting at traffic lights and the best part, I had enough money left over to buy a ZRX1200! So for the price of a single H-D I was able to put two bikes in my garage!

Right on Marty!

Yeah I'll take the metric cruiser and the Z-Rex over a H-D any day! On a second thought, I don't know if I'm ready for a cruiser......I'll take that new Triumph Scrambler instead please. That bike is a real looker. Add a solo seat, chrome rack, and a "278"!

To the person above who buys only buys a harley, good for you, do whatever floats your boat and I'll do what floats mine, we both only have one life to live, I'll do it my way and you will do it yours and we both live joyfully. I'm glad you like your harley just like I'm going to like my VTX. I really don't look forward to people who have this Manufacturer allegiance crap, like harleys only like harleys, hondas only like hondas, ect.. Its the stupidist gawd damn crap I have ever heard of, as long as I am out for a ride enjoying myself I don't see why someone else can't enjoy it either without making judgements about bikes, we're all here just to have fun, not to hold a grudge against one another, wth is that all about, like the harley guys who don't wave to you on the road, that is just so gawd damned pompous, but whatever, I'll ignore you too. Its not the bike that makes the person, if it is then one is truly insecure with oneself trying to adopt and live up to a reputation. Oh well, theres my words, I'm out so I can get sleep to pick up my VTX early tommorow.

Inca,

Congrats on the bike. The VTX is a quality bike, all Honda's will go the distance and maintain resell value. I don't want to stir up anything here, but I think you made a good choice, the VTX is beautiful, reliable, and is worth every penny.

PS: I'm in HD country, they look at me funny for wearing a helmet and gear, but I still wave to them.

Ya Marty, no doubt I found out the thing about the accessories and not adding any value on a trade in the hard way a couple years ago when I asked about trading in my sportster.
So, I just sold it outright, did fine in the end $$$ wise, and made about a dozen new friends that I ride with.
Nevertheless, I will and do accessorize my bike to suit my tastes, regardless of trade-in "value".
I also think, like anything you buy, that the dealer is a big part of the sales process. I personally bought my first HD in North Carolina, and my current one local. I have also brought it to another local dealership to get serviced, and from both places, I have had nothing but good experiences. So I would caution anyone to judge a brand by an experience at a specific dealer.

I also do not have a problem whatsoever with loyalty to a brand, incabiker. In fact, there are ALOT of people that are very loyal to a particular brand for any given reason. And, when given a choice, I'll take an American bike everyday of the week.

Who knows, maybe the percentage of metrics at bike rally's will eventually make it above 5%.

In all honesty, I hope you love the bike and have many smiles for many miles on it!!!!

Thanks, I drove it today and its insane, it has lots of grunt, unbelievable actually. Anyways when I say loyality, I'm not talking about buying a honda or toyota, or ford for that matter because in the past they have been the most reliable, best car you have ever owned. I am talking about only associating yourself with only fellow riders on the brand of motorcycle that you are riding on, and then snerering at anyone else who rides another brand of bike. Thats what I'm trying to get across. Its pretty much racist. But being loyal to a brand is what I do, the hondas that I have owned have always gone the extra miles and never ever had any problems, all the Fords that I have ever owned broke down at 20,000 miles, and this is no joke, and my neighbor has serious problems with his F-150 when he tows stuff, and ford could give a damn about it. The truck is only 6 months old and they say that all the trucks are like that and won't cover it under warranty, WTH?? Anyways with these past expierences of course I am going to be loyal to the car that has caused me the least amount of problems, but that does not mean that I would look down upon someone who owns a ford as an inferior species or anything. Sorry I did not explain that more clear in the post above, I reread it and see that my point wasn't made properly. Its more like a group association gang type of thing, Like I'm crips and your blood because I own honda and you own harley, we are mortal enemys. I have met people like this, this is the type of thing I was trying to explain, and I think its just amazingly silly. Anyways I would love to ride with anyone for the pure enjoyment of cruising the roads, whatever bike it may be on, if it is the best bike for you, then don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Hey Inca! Isn't this your second bike purchase already this year?

That 1300 is supposed to be a great bike if you are into the cruiser thing. All the road tests I read seem to favor the 1300 over it's big brotha 1800. Congrats man and post some photos!

Oh ya, I gotta tell you guys that this VTX IS INSANE!!! I picked it up in Chattanooga today, about an hour and a half drive, and got outta there within an hour. I brought it home and cleaned all the crap off the chome that made it look dull, something that they put on it at the factory so that it won't rust, deterierate.
Anyhow I had a really close call and almost layed it down. I was going through the tightest turn I have ever been on in my life, something that you couldn't do 5 MPH on and be comforatable. Anyways my rear wheel caught some Gravel in the road that was so small I didn't even see it. Well it threw me off the road and into the grass and ditch, and guess what, I didn't drop the bike and rode it like the 250 KLX all the way back to the road, whoa talk about some freaking luck. My neighbor who was riding his V-Star classic 650 behind me said that my whole bike just completley slid off the road and he had no idea how I kept control, I just went into KLX instinct is what I did.

Its kinda funny too, he got the 650 and was bragging all about it, and kinda dissin the KLX, but hes my neighbor and he wasn't being deliberatley offensive, thats just how he is, you know people like that right, they don't say it in a mean way at all, but they try to highlight everything good about there bikes vs. all the downfalls of yours, It kinda gets on my nerves but its too funny to get mad at.

Well when I got my VTX he came over and of course was jealous. I asked him if he wanted to go riding, and of course he agreed. Well we went to the gas station and he started pointing out the good things about his bike, like how yamaha has there gas tank opening at the edge of the tank rather then the middle so that when you fill it up you can fill it up all the way without having to sit on the bike and make it even, so I laughed

Then we got out on the road and you know he just had to drag race me, so I let her rip, WHOAAA!! the bike almost took off without me lol Well we came to a stop later and he was trying to justify his bike being slower off the start because I caught him while he was changing gears and I smoked him in the middle of the gear change, ahah. So I said when we hit the road again you start the race by gunning your bike and lets see what happens. Ok so he opened his bike up and I gave him a 1 second start, the I opened mine up and passed him like he wasn't even moving, this bike has unbelievable torque. Well later on he said that ya I passed him, but it wasn't like I completley smoked him, so I laugh inside my head again. What a day, what a funny neighbor lol.
I'll be posting pictures of the bike soon. I'm glad to know that it handles good off the road lol[:@]

So I'm thinking you might need some knobbies on that thing after all.

Good story - glad neither you nor your new ride got any scratches. I'm sure that bike is going to be a blast. But I'm glad you realized that it was your KLX-fu that kept you upright so if or when the time comes to make that dreaded decision you alluded to earlier about which bike to keep, you know what the right choice is, right? Right? Right.
