I found a lot of discussions on here and ADVRIDER about pros and cons for air box mods. I know keeping air velocity maintains low end tq, throttle response and promotes cylinder filling but its restrictive at top end. I'm not looking for a total hot rod and I plan on using stock air filter elements, or at least something that filters real well, no K&N's for me. I'm thinking of just doing the slip on with no power bomb header. Is the header really worth it for power and/or weight savings?

Also, does anyone have experience with the Wolfman Enduro Tank Bag? I was thinking of throwing one on for around town.

I think this vid does a fairly good job of comparing the exhaust. I wonder what the total decibel increase is.

Well, there's definite improvement with a quality aftermarket muffler and "probably" bigger than what the header does. However, most four strokes do actually benefit from an improved header...just like most 4-wheeled hot rods. The weight benefit is definitely there, as most of the exhaust system weight is in the OEM muffler. I think the header becomes a bigger factor as you up the displacement with a 300-351 bore kit.

On opening up the airbox, IMO it helps just about all across the board...as long as you're properly jetted to take advantage of it. I think the only real complaint is that it is a little noisy for some.

Used a wolfman enduro tank bag for over a year. I really like it.

+1 on the Wolfman enduro. It holds all my tools and tubes when I trail ride. It is only water resistant so pack accordingly, I put a big plastic bag in it to fix the issue.

Wolfman makes a rain cover for it - my riding friend has one.

I'm going to order a tank bag tonight then. I found some top rated sellers on ebay with great prices for the FMF Q4 I like. Found some header/muffler combos too. What's the main difference in the power and mega bomb headers? I read one gives more low end and actually quiets the exhaust a bit. I'm kind of interested in that one.

Rocky mountain atv has good prices and selection so I might try them out for the DJ Carb kit and tank bag.

So far my bike has been starting good so I'm just going to re jet it when I do mods.

Congratulations on selecting one of the most perfect beginner bikes ever! The KLX also happens to be a bike you will still have immense fun on even after you've clocked years of riding experience.

The paramount accomplishments of learning to ride are to enjoy it, survive it, and steepen the learning curve. The KLX is ideally suited to achieving each of these.

Good luck and welcome to an amazing sport!

I used a socket with the short side of an allen wrench stuck in it on that hard to reach air box screen bolt.

Very easy!
